I mentioned before that I think he took this fight to gauge where he was at before committing to a serious fight. Turns out he should know the answer now. He looked old and soft and slow and flat footed.

Yes, but he doesn't move his feet or do the herky jerky constant feinting that Rico was doing. I think that more than anything nullified Usyks own feinting as a weapon. Remains to be seen if Kabayel can nullify it in the same way.

 

I gauranteed you if it was Usyk that got rock, Rico would have to damn near kill him for the ref to wave it.

 

Would be a breath of fresh air and he is the type of personality many will get behind can walk into some big fights and probably bring in the fans

 

In the 4th round Usyk put 4 or 5 shots together and had Verhoeven on wobbly legs then he stepped right off him.
I genuinely think that Usyk knew from that point forward that when he wanted to he could land the shots that would end the fight.

Usyk was in no danger from Verhoeven, he was never really hurt of wobbled so there was no danger in letting the rounds flow

No, I'm making a generalisation about the general Soviet style, which is reliant on holding center ring and taking it in turns punching, whilst getting out of range for defense with minimal infighting. This is exactly what Usyk does which makes him the definition of this style. Soviet schooled fighters rarely punch with other fighters, which is why they're so vulnerable to pressure fighters punching with them as you have literally seen tonight. Again, even sloppy as **** Chisora managed to have some success doing this against a younger Usyk. Just accept that Usyk has stylistic vulnerabilities and isn't invincible.

And seeing some of the shots Usyk did land throughout the bout, no he wouldn't immediately knock out Rico that quick even in his prime. It would be a drag out fight which would still go to mid rounds minimum before something decisive happens.
