Rico Verhoeven vs Muhammad Ali

Ali was arguably in a weak era. All the guys he beat got splattered by bums. The whole Ali thing is just a rose tinted myth. You know for a fact he would have been crucified for his losses, had they happened today.

Frazier and Norton were all time great body punchers and ring cutters who matched up well vs him stylistically. Most fans rate Frazier as a top 10 or top 15 heavyweight. Norton is usually in the top 30. He did avenge both those losses in 73-74. Nonetheless, they were both excellent fighters.

Ali lost to Holmes , a universally regarded all time top 5 heavy, when he arguably should not have even been medically cleared to fight.

Are you seriously going to count the losses to Holmes and Berbick when the guy should not even have been medically allowed to fight? Seriously?

 

But my point is, who did they beat to be rated as such? A string of bums. This is why I say boxing evolves. What made them great to begin with? Look at Frazier's record before he fought Ali, a string of bums mostly. Norton lost to Garcia in just over his 10th fight. That'd be retirement material by today's standards.

Norton gave Holmes, a top 5 all time heavyweight, the toughest fight of his life. He lost to Garcia due to having a limited amateur career.

Frazier beat better fighters than a lot of so called modern fighters did.

who did Bellew beat? The ghost of David Haye? He lost to Cleverly and was ko’d by Stevenson. His win column is very poor.

who did Joshua beat? Old Wlad, old POV? Lost to an obese burrito eating champ. Has not beaten a single legit top 10 heavy in six years.


Who did Breidis beat? A past it Huck? Glowacki and Danny Williams? Fraziers wins over Bugner and Quarry are superior to any of Breidis’S wins

 

But his supposed groundbreaking victories did. Same reason AJ got KOd by the marshmallow. This is my precise point. No one is infallible.

 

But who had these so called great beaten prior to this? A string of bums. It was easy pickings back then.

 

Lol, even if this was true - look at what “bums” in Alis day looked like compared to “bums” now, especially at heavyweight.

Everyone could fight back then, nowadays whats called a bum looks like someone who has little to no understanding of basic fundamentals and principles, not to mention most of them are fat ****s..

..also, Derek Chisora is a top heavyweight today, a 10+ year past prime gate-keeper.. and I love Chisora, just gotta be real.

 

You may be convinced of that but Ali’s actual track record shows it’s highly unlikely.

I don’t even think today is that big a deal. It’s the absurd claims from others that Rico could match up to atg heavies that I am opposed to.

 

Quarry and Bugner are better than anyone Bellew or Breidis beat.

 

Doug Jones is not a top win for Ali. And he's beaten guys way better than Doug Jones, in addition to having a better resume than Usyk. It's better to compare the actual tangibles, nobody was pushing against Usyk like you see now until people started declaring him the goat, but besides that he's been given his dues and is commonly placed in the top 10

I don't feel like disrespecting past greats by calling Usyk the best ever
