Absolutely he struggled and tbh showed its time to get out whilst he can. Some folks cards on here have been PROVEN time and time again to be ridiculous. Imagine requiring a british style stoppage to win against a guy in his 2nd pro fight

Uysk looked like a cruiser against a legitimate heavy. After tonight, I think a heavyweight like Mike Tyson would get Uysk out of there in a round.

 

Best idea, because it looks like they have "unfinished business" to me.

 

It's just that the higher you go, the higher the fans' expectations. It's practically impossible to be higher in boxing than Usyk – the guy has achieved everything and is one of the best, if not the best, boxer in the highest weight classes in history, so the expectations are enormous.

An easy fight was expected, but it turned out to be a tough one, and people, as people do, are emotional about it.

Usyk underperformed, but he's only human, and we often forget that. Besides, people appreciate "heroic" attitudes, and in such cases, sympathy or appreciation often falls on the side of the well-fought underdog.
The stoppage was a bit of a bummer because it not only robbed Verhoven of a chance to return to the fight, but also robbed Usyk of the opportunity to stop him in the next round without any doubt.

He'll get over those disappointments, especially if Usyk wins another fight in style. However, as I write this, I hope Oleksandr plays it smart. He's got a ton of money, he's achieved everything, and after all, there might be a bigger fighter for anyone one day. It's better for him to go undefeated than to lose at a level he could have handled at a younger age. And the lineup is getting extremely long. A rematch with Rico, Kabayel. The guy's not a youngster, and he can't keep beating everyone up forever.

 

I thought usyk had lost a step as soon as the fignt started he looked off from his normal self, he looked awful in there, these cross over fights do boxers no favours whatsoever!

 

Jones Jr flew too close to the sun and was never the same after the enormous weight cut, ran into a fighter who could capitalize on the flaws once he’d lost enough of his super powers. Every fighter has flaws even the very best that’s what makes boxing the theatre of the unpredictable and when you get two elite fighters the variable nature intensifies.

 

I had Rico up even after the KD. But it's very doubtful he would survive the last round. Yeah, it was embarrassing for Usyk. AJ did a proper job on Ngannou. That's what you expect. If you can do it to Dubois, you should have done it to Rico.

Usyk is (well, was) a top class p4p fighter imo but I personally wouldn't rank him in the heavyweight top 10.

Also I'm not surprised there's been such a visceral reaction to this. The Usyk fanboyism here and in other places was honestly insane beforehand, with people picking late 30s Usyk to beat prime ATGs, saying he's the number 1 GOAT, ignoring his inactivity, saying he is allowed to do whatever he wants and pick whatever fights he wants etc etc.

People aren't just reacting to the poor performance of Usyk but the behaviour of people who are obviously a fan of a man before the sport, who now look awfully silly trying to justify themselves and defend their idol.

 

Roy Jones was a journeyman by that stage whereas Usyk is the defending champ. Ridiculous comparison
