Why do we see more MMA / Kickboxers going into boxing but not vice versa?

So or so: Bonjasky was a born natural real heavyweight, Musashi more like a blown-up cruiser. Remy was 3 times K-1 world champoin, Muashi 0 times, only twice the runner up. So Remy was clearly much better and kicked much harder.

The final 2004 was weird. Bonjasky clearly won, but the judges voted twice for draw, and after the second extra round they gave Remy the win. Remy won after 3 rounds already, so he had to go 5.

As a few are saying above. They would have to learn how to defend their legs properly.

(1) If they cant block legs shots at all, they will get hobbled after a round or two, effectively ending the fight.

Unfortunately I think it would be too difficult for the boxer to get enough training for their muscle memory to be overridden.

(2) So after repeatedly reaching down to block with their hands one too many times, the kickboxer switches it up to a head shot for the knock out.

Either way, it wouldn't end well unless the boxer lands something big very early before the kickboxer starts going to work downstairs

 

Japanese were trying hard to have a K-1 champ with Musashi.

 

Agreed, hes a top performing athlete and has shown his physical stength in fights as well as his various other talents.

Didn’t mean to kinda pop off on you, but I just keep hearing people syay “Crawford can wrestle!”, when an 11th grade state level wrestler would probably twist him into a knot.

 

yeah Mercer looked somewhat educated when the kicks were coming down the centreline but when they were elsewhere he didn’t seem to have the ability to anticipate the intention of them. Then at one point he launches a Hail Mary that would’ve decapitated him lol. I skipped through a few pieces of that new video, they’re having a boxing match then out of nowhere the tall guy starts trying to swing his knee up into the other guys nose I’m like now I can see why no boxer wants to try their luck I have rarely watched kickboxing.

 

Yeah I thought I recalled reading about him winning teen championships but focusing on boxing instead. When I researched it he hasn’t got any credentials in an official sort of capacity so you can’t really say he has anything to back it up where he’s fought competitively. I suppose you can’t win golden gloves as well as the wrestling equivalent growing up. I think Crawford won that but may have been silver.

 

I dont disagree with him. In stand-up only, MT is harder as Kickboxing, because they have eight weapons, 2 fists, 2 ellbows, 2 knees and 2 feet/shins, while ellbows are ilegal in Kickboxing and in K-1 too.

Thats imo why people are wrong when they give Masato so much credit for defeating Buakaw in K-1 once, because it was K-1 MAX rules, not MT rules. Imo in MT Buakaw would have been superior.

But yeah, the two had some great fights back then.

Such things do happen in MT more often. Did you ever see a cut like that in boxing? Vitali was Lewis was very bad, like Cooper vs Ali, but it looked like Howards forehead was open (in the last 10 seconds of the clip).

So MT is definately very hard (the knees and ellbows are deadly).

 

It comes down to money pretty much. Conor/Floyd and the Jake Paul circus opened the floodgates for non-boxers to right off the bat get big boxing paydays and high profile boxing matches purely off of their name value.

There is no real incentive for the traffic to go the other way, the boxers out there with name value already make more money in their own sport, and the rest have no star power for any MMA promotion to care about dealing with them in the first place. Plus the UFC suits are smart enough to know that letting boxers waltz into big time MMA fights against their top guys is a really ****ing dumb idea with no real upside and shouldn't be entertained.
