Be honest, if that style hadn't troubled Usyk, did it pass the eye test for you? He didn't look good at all imo. Usyk just looked so bad. It was surprising that Usyk couldn't just light this guy up and finish him.
Well, it made "Hatman Strike Back" laugh very good. :-D This content is protected Watch it for 5 minutes. He called it Jim Carrey boxing style. https://c.tenor.com/igRjpAYtQtMAAAAd/tenor.gif
He wasn't 'good' just 'good enough'. Combine that with Usyk's declining physicality and stylistic weakness to pressure fighting and you have the farce we saw in Egypt. HW is absolutely dire in terms of overall skill level.
He exceeded my expectations Big guy high work rate good guard and didn't bite on feints He's probably a top 25 heavyweight Didn't see a lot of power and I think a big puncher would knock him out cause he lunges in somewhat
Could be good, could be another Ngannou. We need to see him against another HW contender to know for sure.
He did so well because Peter Fury holds the antidote to the soviet style. Look how he had Klit completely shelled up not throwing any punches in dusseldorf. If Tyson never fell out with his uncle he’d have got over the line against Usyk
There was no film to study on Rico. It took Usyk a while to figure him out. Rico ran in head first and threw a lot of punches, of course he's going to land some. Usyk came in heavy and knowing his kids were in a bomb shelter under attack and still found a way to win. Now that he's seen him, a rematch wouldn't go 11 rounds. I do think Rico could be a top 10 heavyweight just based on his herky jerky style and heavy hands/ Plus, I came away with a great respect for him as a fighter and a sportsman, but he doesn't need a rematch with Usyk. It wouldn't go well for him.
What's interesting is that Ngannou wasn't biting much on Fury's feints. I expected him to. But he just looked like an amateur vs AJ. And Fury has a more awkward, active feinting game. Sometimes boxing doesn't make complete sense.
He was awkward which gave him a few rounds. Now, had Usyk done what he was capable of, Usyk would have started to wrap it up in the fifth, and not the eleventh.
For Rico any future Heavyweight Boxing fights the secret is out now and like mentioned a younger decent puncher would imo put him away. Usyk is not an offensive fighter but the moment he exerted himself he had Rico over. For me it’s like Fury v Ngannou who did well against a non offensive puncher, however the moment he went up against Joshua it was all over for him.
We will have to see whether Verhoeven performs effectively against another style, it could be that he just has particular skill set and ability to trouble Usyk or whether he can adapt to several different styles and adjust in preparation and within the bout.
To be honest I can't quite put my finger on it. I do think that is the worst I have ever seen Usyk look. Rico is big and awkward but he didn't really look like an elite boxer he was like a bit of a spoiler in there I am leaning towards Usyk having an off night but can't be sure unless we see Rico in another boxing match with a good opponent.
