Rico is a seasoned kickboxing champion who knows how to knock out his opponents very well. He's not a cab driver picked up from street and put in front of Usyk.

Since you praised him so much, I want to know why he couldn't knock down his opponent even once who is smaller and weaker than him. Please explain.

 

Agreed, but to be honest, I’m a bit confused by his performance. He’s the last boxer I would expect to show up unprepared for a fight. However, he clearly looked slower, more static, and less active than usual.

If I had to guess, I’d say this performance was a combination of Usyk’s age, Rico’s excellent effort, and Usyk assuming he could just waitt, do almost nothing early on, and eventually take over once Rico tired himself out, with the latter being the main factor in my opinion. Still it hurts me to say this, because Usyk is my favourite active fighter, but this will be a pretty big stain on his record, as I can’t see Rico having similar success against other top heavyweights.

why couldn’t a hard punching two time unified world hw boxing champ knock down Usyk even once? Rico caught Usyk clean quite a few times. AJ caught him here and there. The answer is that Usyk has a damn good chin.

 

he’s paying Usyk like 10x what Usyk would normally earn for a title defense. Pretty obvious why Usyk deals with him.

 

But as Usyk fan you should want Usyk to end his career on a good note.

Beating Kabayel for his last fight would do wonders for erasing the memory of the Rico fight.

Personally I think Usyk should've just vacated all the belts after his 2nd win over Dubois and retired.

He's getting old, he's not that active, the division needs to move on now from the Usyk, Fury, Joshua, Wilder, era IMO.

I just hope Usyk hasn't made a big error fighting Rico. And now he may feel like he's kind of forced to have another fight to erase the memory of the Rico fight.

That's why I said earlier active world champions shouldn't be fighting in these cross over fights that count on the official records. It's always a lose/lose situation and never goes to plan.

Where are the easy fights for Usyk? Fury fought the likes of Chisora, Whyte; Joshua fought the likes of Pulev, Ruiz, Takam as a champion. Double standard at its best.

 

The thing about the stoppage is, Usyk would have gotten it no matter what. He didn’t land a lucky uppercut to bail him out. Usyks style is exhausting and Rico was completely gassed. Usyks never been the guy who has to look perfect. He didn’t look perfect against Bellew, Hunter or even the Fury fights but he won.

 

Yeah there is no denying that chin. He got caught with a brutal right hand I expected to knock him down but he shook it off and kept going.

Regardless, after the 10-8 round, Rico essentially could not have won except by knocking Usyk down. You are right...it is what it is.
