Peter flew back with ref Mark Lyson in the same plane and they had a conversation.

Starts on the right spot. Peter still thinks the stoppage was wrong, poining out Rico s outstanding recover abilities which he proved over and over again in kickboxing against Badr Hari, Levi Rigters and Jamal Ben Saddik.

At 10.50 minutes, Peter stated Lyson told him he didnt hear the bell, and Peter said he didnt hear it either.

If Lyson really didnt hear the bell (and it makes sense since Peter didnt hear it too), then I change my opinion about it. I thought Lyson clearly heard it and still stopped the fight.

I’m surprised he was Usyk didn’t connect in any of the post knockdown punches? Is he right? When I watched the replay I saw Usyk connect with everything but one punch

People are buying into a couple of fallacies, here.

The bell does not mean that Rico instantly gets the minute to recover. He has to walk back to his own corner on his own power, and the ref can stop it at any time when he feels the fighter has had enough. I would have given him the opportunity, but all of this hand-wringing doesn't matter.

It's comical but entirely predictable and expected that the controversy of Usyk being denied a conclusive HL reel KO or finish over a giant who dwarfed him for the 2nd time in 4 fights by the refs giving said giants an inordinate amount of time to recover when they were in terrible shape and right on the verge of being knocked out is being completely ignored and all we're hearing about is the ref waving the fight off slightly after the bell after not hearing the bell and, as said, Peter Fury said he didn't hear it himself either.

The same ref who supposedly dived in to save Usyk from a loss and the sport of boxing had only seconds earlier saved Rico from getting KTFO and didn't deduct a point from him for spitting out his gumshield in order to try and save Usyk from a loss and the sport of boxing. But narratives doe

He was given a 29-30 second recovery break right when he was on the verge of being knocked out and he was still badly hurt and unable to defend himself even after all that time. That's the real controversy here

No it isn't and no he wasn't. That should've been a 10-7- round and the scorecards would've been rendered completely irrelevant if Rico hadn't deliberately spat out his gumshield and been given a 29-30 second recovery break because he would've been rendered unconscious or knocked utterly senseless even if Usyk only had a few more seconds to do so, let alone between 5-15

A bit shocking that the ref couldn't hear the bell. Maybe they need to make it louder?

Be interesting to know if the crowd couldn't hear it too.

This seems a bit unlikely (a sliver of me wonders if this is just old boys club circling the wagons type stuff). It sounded very much like a large metal ring bell was being struck. They would typically have it miked up at stadium fights as well.

I agree with your take Serge.. after the first KD there are plenty of time left.. Rico was amazing to be able to get up, first I thought he spat out the gumshield to buy time but after watching the reply it was knocked out of him so fair play from Rico.
The referee should have done the mandatory 8 count and let the action resume rather than walked Rico to the corner and watched the corner fumbling trying to put the gumshield back.. that’s the first bad call on the referee part.
I have no doubt Usyk would have ended the matter before the round end. But we are all human so couldn’t be too harsh on the referee that have to make a decision on the thick of the moment..

OK I was lead to believe he spat it out but if that's not the case and it looked like he did when I watched it because I couldn't see it get knocked out when I watched the replay and it wasn't the first time it came out either.

Not to mention that Usyk's never came out once even though Rico landed some sickeningly heavy flush bombs which landed with a loud thud and sent shockwaves reverberating throughout his body

But either way, Usyk was clearly robbed of a KO or conclusive stoppage win by Rico being given 29-30 seconds to recover

I've no issue with Rico he did amazing, is a lovely guy, and the only quibble I have of him was with the dirty tactics he employed and even then he's such a nice and honourable guy I can't even hold it against him

I do not think it was a case of the ref being corrupt on this occasion either but more just bad decisions on his part

And even though it should never have reached the stage of the controversial stoppage because the fight would've been over in the 11th round had Rico not been given a 29-30 second break, I do think the ref should've afforded Rico the opportunity to recover during the interval between round 11 and 12 even though I think Usyk would've still knocked him out in the 12th had the ref not waved it off

Except that after the 11th, he would have been up on the cards, and the punch count confirms a very close fight.

Did Oleksandr have a below average fight performance? Probably. (Could some of that have been Rico's doing? Probably.) So does anyone here think Oleksandr Usyk would have lost this fight if it had been allowed to continue into the 12th round? Personally, given what I saw, I cannot envision a path to a Rico Verhoeven victory. Therefore, I do not see a problem with how it ended. What am I missing here?

Congratulations to Rico on a brave showing. Congratulations to Oleksandr on his victory. (The great ones often find a way to win, even on an off night.)

If he doesn’t spit the mouthpiece out or take a knee people would have been saying he’s naive and stupid so I don’t really have any issue with him doing so and giving himself a better chance to get to the 12th. Corrales did it twice during counts and it opened the opportunity to take Castillo out.

I am tired of this. You know nothing about Rico. I am not sure that Usyk even punches harder as Jamal Ben-Saddik, who is contrary to Fury a real 6 ft 9 guy with 265 lbs pure muscles on him, he is a much bigger and heaver guy as Usyk, and he punches damn hard. So this thing like "Usyk would for sure KO him" is imo too much. Maybe he would have, but in his career so far, one of Rico s biggest strenghts are his recover abilities, which are imo a bit like Tyson Fury.

For the record: Former K-1 and MMA fighter Siala Siligia, known as Mighty-Mo, destroyed Francois Botha faster then Lennox Lewis did. Mo had a right hand like David Tua a left hand, both from Samoa. Mo hit Botha 4 times, and Botha went down 3 times. The whole fight didnt last 90 seconds (starts on the right spot when the fight begans. Botha goes down after 3-4 seconds for the first time):

There are ppl in other combat sports who hit as hard as boxers, believe it or not. Mo is the prime example. Never got Botha demolished like that in his pro boxing career.
