They should have fought, yes, but now, as he pointed out, if Benavidez is seriously considering fighting a HW, he's way too big for Canelo now, who isn't even a big 168er.

The same reason he fought the face of boxing in the US who had a history of judges heavily favoring him. Because he had the confidence in himself he could school him. Nice duck excuse though.

Nobody wants to see a giant weight bully beat up a shot Canelo that ship sailed a long time ago.

You mean in the fight he schooled the face of boxing and somehow only won the fight by a single point on all the judge's cards?

Massive weight bully Benavidez in just his 2nd fight at the weight weighed at least 12lbs more than what career LHW Bivol does and yet he expects the champ and #1 LHW Bivol to fight him his backyard where they stack the deck with a home ref and 3 home judges damn near all the time, as they did for every single one of Benavidez's world title fights vs foreigners, and rob the foreigner damn near all the time none more so than ones from the former Soviet Union. Bivol will have to KO

The point is Bivol knew he would be up against Canelo judges before he signed the fight, yet he still took it.

I'm happy for David to fight Bivol in Saudi no problem, I'm just waiting for Bivol to finally take the fight. Rumors he is going to fight Callum Smith after Eifert, who is even bigger than Benavidez. Before they talk about locations and judges Bivol has to want to fight David. I don't see it happening.

Canelo wants to protect his status as a legendary Mexican fighter and in his mind can't take the risk of losing to a fellow latino. Losing to Crawford or Bivol is one thing, Benavidez a different matter entirely. Same reason Chavez burned inside losing to ODLH.

But getting whipped by Oscar did not hurt Chavez's legacy. If anything it enhanced it as a warrior. I think Canelo was just scared of a brutal ass whipping. If Benavidez was a point fighter he would have fought him.

Ever since the fight was talked about seriously, Canelo was in his 1 punch at a time era…. I can’t envision this ever beating Benavidez with his size, range, and output.

What's most annoying to me is how canelo earned so much money, one of the most successful careers ever in boxing moneywise with all his maneuvering.

Then inoue gets so much **** but fights frequently against good opponents...

Benavidez being at 168 and fighting blown-up middleweights like Andriade, or feather fisted Plant was already iffy. Still chasing the blown-up, muscle bound Alvarez in his X weight class, while just showing up to win a belt at cruiser? Classless.

David is making his own legacy and Canelo adds little to it, bar perhaps denying him being the first man to expose him (bar Floyd, bar Lara, bar Golovkin, bar Buvol.)

Does anyone even dispute that this was a duck when they were both at 168? But now it no longer has any meaning. Bivol and Opetaia are the guys for Benavidez.

    True.

Benavidez and canelo are clearly two different weights and it's fine if canelo never wanted to Fight him.

My big problem with this is that he was campaigning as the undisputed super middle weight champion, so sure of being the clearly best in the division.

Benavidez was in the division, too. So that just gives me the clear picture of canelo moving into a weak division, snacking the belts and not taking on the most serious opponent there.

    That was despicable.

On the other hand, talking about canelo after the cruiser fight where the canelo fight would have to be at some catchweight or even light heavy... Is ridiculous, too. He should have said bivol and benavidez, but was much more reluctant to go that way.

Canelo vs benavidez now would make canelo a really big underdog for the first time in forever

Canelos old & spent .. why would he be dumb enough to fight a dangerous CW like Benavidez? It's a mismatch at this stage.. Benavidez has outgrown him..
