Usyks team signaling that Kabayel isn't a big enough money fight

Sex factor is important in boxing. Muhammad Ali wouldn't have achieved so much if he wasn't so pretty!

 

Since when beating an aging Zhang justifies a title shot. Zhang lost to Parker and Hrgovic as well they did not get Usyk fights either. Let him fight Hrgovic, Wardley, Parker, Dubois or similiar and if he wins it may justify a Usyk fight. Almost 1.5 years since the Zhang fight and he only fought a quasi-amateur with no big fights.
Honestly I prefer people like Parker taking massive risks to gain the title shot (Wardley) as opposed to boxers just waiting for time to pass to get a title.

If Usyk retires ill respect it but if he doesnt retire and chooses to fight someone instead of Kabayel its a straight up duck

Turki has made it clear that the money is there and it will be a huge stadium fight in Germany

I want to see that Kabayel fight happen too. Why not test the current best with the best-deserving?

And if Usyk and his team announce a fight and it isn't immediately Kabayel, then that announcement has to include a commitment (all things being equal) to fight Kabayel next.

And if Usyk/his team fail to acknowledge Kabayel at all ... then the WBC must strip him post-haste and make arrangements asap for Kabayel to access that belt. Anything less would constitute unacceptable corruption, and would make an even bigger joke of the alphabet-soup.

If Usyk instead announces his retirement ... or even if he announces he'll continue to fight but will not face Kabayel and is accordingly relinquishing his WBC belt (and any others whose mandatories he chooses to duck), then that's fine too. I won't hold it against him. I give him all props for all he's accomplished.

The purist in me just doesn't want to see Kabayel get hosed.

I agree Kabayel should have stayed more active but he beat Zhang in a seriously impressive fashion that Hrgovic and Parker didn't (they were close fights too). And this was after KO-ing two undefeated, potential contenders in Makhmudov and Sanchez. He should have had his title shot soon after the Zhang win, he earnt it way more than Parker did, even though Parker's run was pretty good too... not Kabayel's fault he's been made to wait so long.

 

The main thing that makes a money fight is name recognition not whether or not the fight makes sense. Also to an extent of course he's using the money thing to mask wanting easy fights but he's not totally lying. Fighting Wilder probably does make more money than a fight with any serious contender not named Kabayel.

 

Of course the money is a motivation no doubt, but I also think Usyk would probably want to tick Wilder off his personal list, as he's the biggest champion from his era that he hasn't faced. It's probably why he's also mentioned Ruiz before. So I think he's just interested in the big names from HIS era rather than future contenders. In which case, he should drop the belts if he is thinking that way. I think Verhoeven, being a long-reigning champion and living legend in the combat sports world was probably something that probably interested him too.

 

Usyk is truly tiresome at the moment.

My issue with that is that the future contenders are mostly from his era because him Fury and AJ refused to fight anyone. And the complete checklist is the manifest of the scam Fury, AJ and Usyk pulled on the fighting public.

I agree the checklist matters to Usyk but part of that is the checklist is very easy.

 

After the Rico fight that's hilarious . That sure as hell wasn't a big money fight either.

 

Ive been tired of the usyk show for a while. He's good, very good, not as good as the nuthuggers would have you believe.

People have spent years claiming the likes of AJ , Fury and Dubois are bums, (although they all had nuthuggers of their own of course) but want to glaze Usyk for beating them and crown him as the GOAT.

Richer than most people could ever dream of but will only fight Kabayel for an astronomical purse - yet he's such a humble guy full of integrity that only cares about legacy and the sport, yeah...right. Greedy Cossack.
