Who should clean Usyk's mess?

Yes I can agree with that and I can see Rico doing the same,I might have it all wrong but I just feel Rico applying the same sort of pressure to an offensive fighter would be his undoing,then again Peter might have a completely different strategy. That’s what makes it more interesting to see Rico fight next imo .

 

wouldn’t applying that same pressure to someone like AJ be the bigger issue? sure, go ahead and charge in at a top tier puncher with your head down and chin kind of out. also, I don’t know how that physical roughhousing up close works against a guy about the same size and strength.

 

thats the acid test. a complete well schooled fighter would be able to see the errors he was making, and go to the proper response. so even if he changes his plan and style for next fight, an elite fighter, like the ones from past eras people think wouldnt cut it today, would be able to exploit the mistakes a novice boxer cant avoid committing. an educated eye can spot those mistakes, so if they cant see them and exploit them, then they are just not as good as others before them have been.

 

Fury doesn't accept fights against live bodies. Anyone who watched Wlad's previous couple fights knew he was badly losing it. Anyone who claims a 39 year old is prime is a moron. Not talking about you, but a handful of others (Fury apologists) on here have repeatedly claimed Wlad was in peak form.

 

While I get where you're coming from, Wlad was the champ at the time. Who else was Fury supposed to fight? And it also indicates that even if Fury did have the rematch and won, he'd get even less credit for it.

What annoys me is that it puts Fury in a lose-lose situation and Wlad seemingly gets a pass no matter how poorly he performs.

 

In regard to AJ v Rico I don't see AJ being able to adjust the same way the other fighters you alluded to do. If his game plan isn't working he tends to fall apart mentally

 

He might have gotten less credit than the first fight, or he may have lost. Instead he went into hiding for three years. Fighters are often put into lose-lose situations. Most don't throw years of their career away, dodging those situations.

 

Be nice a Joshua v Rico fight and that was the original fight before it fell apart and Usyk stepped in,not a great deal of size difference tbh between Rico and Ngannou,Ngannou around 6’4” and up to 272lbs iirc .

 

Then there's zero incentive to take the second fight.

 

He maybe a novice boxer but don’t forget he’s an elite combat sports athlete who has competed for over a decade at the very top. That always counts for something. He’s able to hold his own

 

Huge money and being a man of honor by living up to your obligations. A second win over a past it Wlad is still better than Any other win he has or will get.

 

This is ridiculous. How does the HW champion of the world NOT get a rematch after a loss? There are countless examples of this happening. Wlad had a bad night (and is 39 years old), but he was beating up on Fury in the last round. The rematch would have probably been a bigger fight because this wasn't the regular Wlad title defense.

 

A few other posters mentioned this, but NO ONE is cleaning up Usyk's mess. I would like to see Ngannou vs. Rico though. If Rico wins and AJ beats Fury I would like to see AJ vs. Rico. If AJ doesn't beat Fury (which I don't think he will) maybe Kabayel can fight Rico after his fight with Usyk (which I expect Usyk to win). If Rico wins against Kabayel then it's probably time for Usyk vs. Rico 2. I honestly don't want to see it because I would rather see Usyk vs. Moses. I think most of us boxing fans realize Usyk will probably be more dominant in a rematch with Rico.

 

I agree Usyk made a little mess there for a few rounds, but he cleaned it up with a spectacular right handed (his weak hand) uppercut that send Verhoeven face first through the ropes
