He barely gets credit for the first win, what's the point of doing it again, especially as he went through a mental breakdown? It just sounds unreasonable to me.
Fury retired due to mental health issues, and Champions aren't automatically entitled to rematches either. It's why the division is so damn stagnant. Wlad lost so badly we didn't need to see it again. The fact he didn't win any fights after that confirmed it.
1. I'm pretty sure there was a rematch clause. 2. The scorecards were relatively close (2 round difference). 3. The fact he didn't win any fights after Fury doesn't mean anything. Wlad was trying to get a fight with Fury and he kept reneging.
I dont trust AJ to win impressively. I want someone with youth and power.... and someone who will brutalize him to the point it sends the necessary message. Maybe either Moses, or DD. If Im Turki im making Rico vs Moses. Can make sense for both of them. Ricos fighting a top 10 guy and gets him in the mix and solidifies him as a top contender. For Moses its his biggest fight to date and possibly his toughest opponent against someone who just troubled the king of the division. Moses vs Rico let's go.
Ya part of me thinks the only way to redeem boxing right now is for a boxer to go beat Rico in kickboxing.
1. A rematch clause is redundant if the person you are fighting is retiring from the sport. 2. Sure. In Wlads backyard as a reigning champ with A-side advantage. Everyone else with a set of subjective eyes calls it for what it was: A one-sided schooling. 3. Of course it does. It means Wlad didn't have it in him to fight on and win. His next fight wasn't until two years later, he didn't even bother staying active.
Nah. Boxing and kickboxing share the same base. This idea that an elite, power punching boxer couldnt knock out a kickboxer, I dont buy it tbh. Ya the kickboxer should rightfully be favored heavily, but its a winnable realm imo, for an elite power puncher with the right gameplan. Just imo though. I realize the general combat world disagrees.
Having done both sports and sparred people going both ways, it's a lot easier for a kickboxer to learn boxing than it is for a boxer to learn kicks. That power puncher from boxing loses a lot of that leverage based on stance differences alone, so while it's technically possible it's very difficult.
Ya I trained/sparred kickboxing on and off for roughly 5 years when I was younger, its actually why I think boxers have an ok chance if they come in with the right mindset. It needs to be the right boxer with the right style. Needs to be aggressive, physical and have elite power. Trying to box from the outside will lose every time. But I do think a physical power puncher that presses has a realistic chance at stopping a kickboxer before they can stop the boxer. Just depends on the kickboxer. Ricos chin isnt granite. I dont buy that someone like Moses or DD has no chance at breaking him before he breaks them. Favored to do so? I concede that. But completely implausible? I dont buy it personally. But more importantly, we will probably never find out. Doubt a high level boxer near their prime makes the jump anytime soon.
He didn't have a mental breakdown, it was his excuse for ducking. Dudes best win by a mile was a washed up old man, whom he ran from the contracted rematch. fury is the ultimate coward, not a significant win to his name.
Just no money in it I guess. I think Itauma could give Rico issues due to the speed and movement, but I think DD would be much easier to break down and outbox with an unorthodox approach.
