if Bivol had Beterbiev’s power, he’d be not only the greatest LHW who ever lived but also the greatest p4p boxer who ever lived. There’s a reason he doesn’t have big power. **** just wouldn’t be fair.

He fails to realise that Bivol was never a PPV fighter and without Beterbiev or a major dance partner he can't draw.

Future fights like Eifert will draw peanuts.

 

He seemed less bouncy on his feet but with such an outclassed opponent, it’s hard to tell if he’d lost something or if he just didn’t need to bounce so why waste the energy.

 

Bivol vs Benavidez would be a huge PPV event. We could even resurrect the Cold War for that ****. Goddamn Soviets have held those belts for too long, we’re sending in our man David to win them back

Very few of his fights deserve a rewatch.

 

Bivol is brilliant and a P4P fighter in the modern era, but I don't think he's anywhere near the greatest of all time at 175, not even in the discussion for me. The 175 division is arguably the deepest division of all time from an ATG perspective. 120-107'ing Michael Eifert doesn't strengthen that argument either; that guy is nowhere near world-level. The only elite name Bivol has ever beaten was a 39/40 year old Beterbiev, who took him right to the wire in the first fight and got the nod. RJJ, Ezzard, and Archie Moore wouldn't have much of a problem with him, IMO. Prime for prime Beterbiev beats him, I think.

You missed Bivol's two fights with Beterbiev. He was backfoot the entire 24 rounds, and clinching towards the end of the first definitely.

 

ANYONE in history @175 against Beterbiev is on the backfoot for 24 rounds, and most would be clinching far more than the few times Bivol did. Beterbiew is super strong with a wrestling background, clinhing against him is not a wise move to preserve energy levels, Bivol was avoiding clinches / clinching for the majority of the 2 fights, even in some places where he might have been wise to try and tie Artur up a bit to make him reset.

 

You cant clinch Beterbiev, you have to fight him on the inside or use a combination of both. Like you said, Beterbiev is strong, so if all you is clinch then you put yourself in a disadvantage.
Someone like Ward would have a lot of success against Beterbiev on the inside, because Ward knew how to fight in the clinch and this allowed him to both defend himself and to get superior positions.

Years ago I looked at several of Beterbiev´s earlier fights, and he did not do so well in the clinch if the opponent knew how to handle themselves. I think Ward would do really well up close, problem for Ward would be it would most likely become an attrition fight.

exactly. You can’t stand toe to toe with him. He’s too strong and his hands are way too heavy. He doesn’t need to load up for his punches to damage or hurt either. Anything he throws does damage and hurts, he’s that heavy handed.

Bivol beat him about the only way anyone can.
