Middleweight Fantasy King of the Hill 6/12- Hopkins vs Golovkin

This has been done many times on Classic. I will pick Golovkin as always. In his pomp he looked invincible and inevitable and Hopkins ... not so much. Until GGG got old there was never any debate about "who won" any of his fights whereas that is not the case with Hopkins.

Mercado, Jones, Mitchell obviously. Hopkins had a great run at the top, but, again, I don't feel that the spectator is wondering which round he was going to get the KO in, whereas with GGG it was almost a given. Guys could hang with Hopkins but if they tried it with Golovkin they generally ended up in hospital.

 

There are some good LHWs to bring up. Historically a fine division.

 

I will say that Hopkins had the greater career and aged better. He used his smarts to extend his career beyond what should be possible for an old fighter. Golovkin aged less well because he slowed down a lot when he got older and that is problematic for somebody trying to outbox the other guy. GGG was a machine in his prime but as an older fighter you can see he's trying to push the pace but in my opinion his body just isn't the same. Hopkins rather controlled the pace and the other guy as an older fighter and really picked his spots better.

 

Prime Hopkins by wide UD over one of the most overrated fighters who ever lived.

That jab and in a close fight I ALWAYS GO WITH the house fighter. And Nard was not the house fighter and an independant.

 

GGG wins and I hope it's by a brutal knockout.
