Even though Whyte is shot to pieces, I believe he still has more than enough to take a novice like Fisher.

 

He knocked back a joke (low ball) offer. AJ wanted to break America at MSG. He had no intention of fighting Whyte at Wembley once Fury and Wilder weren't available. I think AJ offered Miller more money than he offered Whyte - which Miller found hilarious as I recall

He did turn down a final eliminator again Pulev, and fought Parker instead - many let it slide because at the time Parker was seen as a hard opponent and for more money.

He didn't turn down any other final eliminators though. Though some bring up falsely the nonsense Ortiz eliminator to be second mandatory when he was legally owed (allegedly) a final eliminator against Breazeale after coming through a previous eliminator against Chisora.

 

I think Whyte has one last cycle driven hurrah and boshes the Romford Bull

But I put that down to if Eddie didn't have AJ he would have gotten a better push

 

Yup, he wanted a mandatory against a fighter beneath him for years, parading around the hard done by, I've been mandatory for years, when will I get shot, blah blah blah, when in reality, he had no intention of using it until someone mediocre came about. Sure enough, when he was backed into a corner to fight Fury, he and Hearn threw the toys out of the cot, and for good reason too, as he embarrassed himself and got slapped around the ring for 6 rounds.

The most overrated HW of that era by a mile. Was barely too 15/20.

 

Possibly (he was obviously a top 5 guy for a while). But his PED cases will always a black mark (though maybe a grey one given it's boxing). And ultimately he was always a face that didn't fit. Numerous fanboys (Wilder's, Joshua's, Fury's) took severe umbrage with him (some still hate him it would seem lol). And he was a constant thorn in the side of the WBC.

• Wilder (with WBC's help) ducks him for years... Whyte threatens legal action > Whyte's fault
• Joshua low balls him for the Wembley fight... Whyte turns down the offer > Whyte's fault
• Fury (Warren) forces through payment of 18% (when as WBC interim champion/mandatory, Whyte was due anywhere between 30~50%)... Whyte becomes uncooperative in media > Whyte's fault

That reads as someone fans weren't ever getting behind.

He just rubs too many people up the wrong way. He probably achieved as much as he could be expected to, sadly - boxing is about business and celebrity, not a sport anymore.

 

why is that a travesty? you say that like he got robbed of one, he did nothing against Fury and got KO'd when he had his chance, and AJ KO'd him too.

 

Whyte was only ever a pawn on the chess board for hearn to manouver himself into putting on an in-house matchroom undisputed heavyweight fight. This is what the road to undisputed was all about.

Whyte got put to sleep by an ageing Cruiserweight. He overachieved, he's earned more than guys like Danny Williams and Michael Sprott.

 

I see this fight is rumoured to be part of a "7v7" Queensberry vs Matchroom card. Buatsi-Smith rematch mentioned as one of a few suggestions by Hearn (source: IFLTV).

 

100% overachieved financially.

One of the biggest earners not just in British boxing, but probably in boxing full stop when you compare ability to earnings. The bloke made fortunes and still felt hard done by taking a little over £6 million for the Fury fight.

Still enjoyed his career though, and hopefully he avoids lowering himself to take the Bosh fight, regardless of what's on the table. He can't possibly need it given what he's grossed, and likely netted, over the years.

 

I stand on it that he's better than AJ. Yeah he may have gotten beat in that fight but his best beats AJ best I just like his style. Fury is a bridge to far agreed

 

Whyte was well in that fight until the ate an uppercut (much as Fury and Povetkin did to him). If his shoulders had been working he might have put AJ into space with a left hook; AJ was gung ho, chin in the air all night.
