Bob Foster vs Matthew Saad Muhammad

Narrowly favour Foster to use the jab, land combinations, and do enough damage to Saad from the outside while avoiding taking too much himself.

 

Terrible, terrible matchup for Saad.

 

Bob by decision in a competitive fight.

 

I think it is a bad match up for Saad because he made his living off taking punishment from his opponents and coming back strong. Against an all time great puncher like Foster, that strategy is suicide. I believe there are ways to beat Foster, but, eating a continuous stream of hard left hooks isn't one of them.

 

Taking punches from Foster is a big no-no for a guy like Saad. It's hard to envision him making a "miracle" comeback against a dangerous puncher like Foster. I think Foster could very well win by late round stoppage.

 

I think that Saad gets hit too much to win this fight. In my opinion, Foster would stop him and it could happen at any time. Foster was very adept at using his jab and his length to control the terms of a fight. He also had a very sharp, hard and accurate right hand; the right hand and the jab would be the tools that would bust Saad up facially and potentially lead to a stoppage as the fight progresses. In addition, Foster was very capable of whipping that left hook and a right uppercut to the body. With his height, and the way he positioned his lead foot close to the lead foot of the opponent, the right uppercut to the body is virtually a freebie and it is a great set up for a left hook.
The reason that I say that this fight could end at any time is that Saad will be coming forward and looking to engage. Foster fought out of a very angled stance and used that whipping jab effectively. Saad would need to be circling to his left to get around Foster's lead shoulder, thus moving into the Foster right. More importantly, the Foster left hook will be coming from a blind spot on the more squared up Saad. Saad was a very tough guy but there are limits to human endurance and you can find those limits pretty quick getting hit with blindside left hooks from Bob Foster.
But Saad will be coming forward, forcing the fight and throwing bombs and he may land something that will hurt foster and change the course of the fight.

 

Saad gives his best effort, but Bob is just way too much for him.

Foster by stoppage in 7 or 8.

 

I think ultimately Saad gets hit too much. He’ll give a good fight and have some moments, but get stopped.

 

I love Bob, but to be fair, the LH competition was pretty weak when he was champion. Not sure he ever fought anybody as good as Saad. I think it could go either way

 

Yea I want to say Saad could absorb the punishment and turn the table. Realistically its not happening. That jab of Bob Foster wasn't your garden variety point builder. It did damage.
Bob Foster was the Sherrif of 175lbs.

 

I think the consensus is that Foster has more range and ability to hit and not be hit than Muhammad so that an all out brawl to the death favors Foster and that if they decide to not go all out, Foster can win more rounds on boxing ability with the jab. Saad might be a really live underdog, but working from underneath either way.
