Two Olympic gold medalists who are considered one of the best in amateur boxing before turning pro. Both had a stellar record only losing just once out of hundreds of amateur bouts but who would you say was the more dominant force? Even though Lomachenko turned out to be the better pro fighter Breland still had a decent pro career as well.
When Breland was an amateur it was already pre ordained that, once he turned pro, he would be greater than Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns put together. I don't think that Lomachenko inspired that type of hyperbole.
True, but do you think part of that is cos Mark was American and got more media attention and coverage than what a great Ukrainian fighter would get? Also, after seeing how Breland and other amateur fighters turned out as pros, perhaps media had learnt to temper the hyperbole and wait for the pro career to start to reveal itself before hyping fighters too much.
