It is often claimed that Wlad lost to Aj because he was 41 years old. This may or may not be true, all we know for certain is Wlad failed when they fought and retired rather than take the chance to avenge his loss.

But are there 41 year old HW's who would have probably stopped AJ in the same situation? Big punchers who could have plausibly dropped AJ heavily in the first place too.

    The scenario:

AJ has been hurt in the 5th and dropped heavily in the 6th. He is badly hurt, gassed, demoralised. He has never been in a fight nearly this hard, an event this big, and never been past 7 rounds. The opponent is a clear B-side and knows it, with the first 5 rounds being close or AJ rounds, so the incentive to finish him is even stronger. AJ rises to his feet and the fight resumes with about 100 seconds left in the 6th.

We know in reality that Ruiz and Dubois made AJ quit or sparked him in 7 and 5 rounds respectively, so it's far from impossible.

Replace 41 year old Wlad with same age versions of Foreman, Ortiz and Zhang. Do they finish AJ? Is there anyone outside these three who you'd favour to finish the job?

I would add that even if Foreman, Ortiz or Zhang failed to finish it, they would all go for it hard. None of them would pointfight for the rest of the match in my opinion.

I can’t imagine someone having so little going on in their life that they have to resort to starting a thread like this. I’m actually embarrassed that I’ve read it and replied.

    It’s pathetic

You're my biggest fan, which is far more pathetic by your own logic.

What have you got going on in your life codger?

I don't think there is any other 41 year old HW in history that would have AJ almost stopped besides Vitali.

I don't find the hypothetical as viable with Vitali because he didnt have the power to compromise AJ with one punch like that. 41 year old Vitali was worse than the one who went 12 with Kevin, old Briggs and Chisora, not dropping or overwhelming any of them despite landing loads.

I'm not exactly sure where this recent narrative about Vitali's power (lack of) is coming from, but there are very few people that have walked into a boxing ring as strong as Vitali. Very few.

Besides that, 41 year old Vitali could probably stop AJ. IMO AJ would probably gas himself out trying to keep Vitali off of him for 12 rounds. On top of that, AJ's defense wasn't great and Vitali has the size and chin to tag him constantly. This fight goes the same as most of Vitali's other fights.

Sosnowski/Danny Williams level or above non-injury stoppages always took Vitali past 7 rounds, without exception, and even then they tended to be standing TKO's or RTD's. He was very underpowered for his size and at 41 it stands to reason that his KO threat had furthered diminished. The myth around Vitali doesnt match the reality of his record or the fight footage.

We're criticizing a guy for getting late stoppages now? Do you know what happened to Briggs after Vitali fought him?

Underpowered for his size? What does that even mean? His KO % is greater than 91%.

There is no myth with Vitali. All of the guys that fought him were either stopped and the 4 that he beat that weren't stopped looked like they got a beating. LL was hurt and Byrd just survived with his pitty pat punches.

Kevin and Chisora didnt look beaten up iirc. Ive never seen the full timo hoffmann fight. Old Briggs shouldnt have survived given the amount of flush punches he ate, if Vitali was such a puncher. Lewis was vulnerable to being one punched and Byrd was a blown up LHW. Vitali dropped none of them.

Apart from the fact that all other boxing related discussions here (ali vs tyson etc) also take up a lot of time that might not be spent in the most 'useful' way:

I think even (actually especially) if you have a stressful life, it is important to protect the space for things like this.

For some it might be playing the piano. For others it is discussing fantasies, which is super relaxing and a way out of the constant hustling and even better, it is an offer for others to follow that lead.

If your professional life is full of optimizations and small error margins, why would anyone want that for one's personal life? One has to reserve some space for letting loose.

This discussion is about a thousand times better than passively sitting in front of the tv and yet millions of people are doing that without being called pathetic.

    Let's be human please.

Kevin Johnson is dark-skinned so it is not very apparent, but he definitely had swelling under both eyes. One of his eyes had blood in it. I mean there are pictures online from during and after the fight. Chisora doesn't have any markings (also very dark-skinned) from what I saw, but he was certainly tired. Both of those guys tried to survive.

I recall Vitali being more tired than Chisora, who applied pressure from 1-12. Kevin was trying to replicate Byrd's win and Vitali had some trouble with him, not able to hurt Kevin and getting marked up.

Results for stopping a badly hurt AJ thus far:

    41 Foreman 15-0
    41 Ortiz 10-2
    41 Zhang 10-2

It wasn't primarily an age (speed, stamina, co-ordination) problem, it was a Wlad problem.
