Mayweather v Duran

Oh, you saw him after an EIGHT YEAR PRIME run at lightweight?

Maybe you recall him beating that welterweight they called Ray Leonard? A guy who was three times the fighter that Mayweather ever was?

 

Personally, I don't believe Mayweather Jr , ( The Money May version) would get with in a mile of a boxing ring against any PRIME ATG between lightweight and Jr.Middle, Or anyone who would be a serious bet to beat him.
And especially one as dangerous as a prime Duran would be ( Lightweight to welterweight).
Castillo and Maidana gave May Jr . Pure hell. Now imagine them with the skills, aggression, power and FOOT SPEED, of prime Duran?
Especially when considering May Jr didn't have the power to keep him honest.
If strong and skilled natural welterweights like prime Leonard and Palomino couldn't dissuade Duran, what is " brittle hands" going to do?
(NOTE: There isn't a world class boxer in history that DIDN'T have hand problems, another tired excuse for May Jr fan boys for his lack of power. ) Hell , I was just an amateur, and a sparring partner, and both my hands ache at times at 60yrs old. It's just part of having been in the game.
Ive said this before, Las Vegas , the betting capital of the world, uses pure logic when betting on fights. The only time May Jr wasn't a prohibitive favorite was against Corrales ( and if Vegas knew of all the problems Corrales was having prior to the May Jr. fight, he would've been the favorite against him too)
Vegas is in the business of making money unlike May Jr.s fanboys.
Is it because of Mayweather Jr.s " superior skills" the reason he was the favorite in damn near all his fights, or, Vegas knew the real quality of the opponents he's faced?
Every big named opponent he faced was at least five years past there prime, with the exception of Alvarez, who really wasn't that special at all.
If Mayweather Jr. Did " Dare to be great" and fight a prime and focused version of Duran between Lightweight through welterweight, he'd get stopped, as soon as Duran figured he's no serious threat to hurt him, the fight would be over with in 10 rds.

 

I think you gotta emit that when Duran got calt out movin up through all them weight classes, he "mysterionlously" stopped scoring all those knockouts all of a sudden.

 

That's funny considering even Floyd's father said Oscar won. And DLH is not on the same level as Duran.

 

I was a huge Delahoya fan at the time…he got embarrassed. It wasn’t a close fight and he never hurt him.

 

I don’t think Mayweather losses this fight. If they fought three times maybe…maybe Duran can catch him once. I’ve never seen anyone as good as Mayweather at hitting and not being hit…which is the point of the sport.

 

They were literally estranged during that time period

 

Duran would have done a complete psyche job on Floyd.

He’d have hounded him at the pressers and the weigh-in.

 

You can’t be serious.

 

And you’ve never seen Floyd fight any prime ATG either.

He wouldn’t have looked so great and had his zero, had he have fought the prime monsters who Duran fought.

That should be obvious to any knowledgeable fan.

 

I can’t imagine the fight happening either. Mayweather just wouldn’t get in the ring when he knows he’s in for a war he can’t win.
Also Duran had lightning speed at his best

 

Floyd Sr. had always maintained he believed Oscar won that fight.

 

I dont think he got embarrassed at all. I thought he did enough to win at the time, but it was a very close fight. The fact the Mayweather retired to avoid a contracted rematch tell me how close he thought the fight was as well. My point isn't about Oscar though. My point is if Oscar could do what he did Duran would do much more.
