You can’t make direct comparisons between a WW/MW and a HW.

Yes, Joe looked great when he punched.

That was due to his footwork.

Shifting, stalking, cutting off the ring, with the perfect balance and leverage etc.

Everything comes from the feet. You know that.

Joe is one of the most technically skilled HW’s of all time.

You can say that he didn’t have fast feet. But everything great he did came from his great footwork.

Running around the ring and jumping in and out without having your feet under you is not great footwork - Joe showed he could be fleet of foot against Max Baer, but his footwork is the same wheelhouse as Napoles - just expressed differently due to his style.

Nowt wrong with Benny Leonard or Gene Tunney - on film and on paper, they are excellent fighters.

Canzoneri and Ross are excellent fighters - Wilde, we have minimal footage, but enough to see that he has excellent weight transfer through the hips.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Kid Chocolate vs Tony Canzoneri.

Yeah, that was my point, that he had slow feet.

    They weren’t that slow.

Again, he’s one of the most skilled HW fighters of all time.

    His footwork was great.

It’s not just about having fast footwork anyway.

    James Toney comes to mind.

Joe Louis footwork wasn't the type to circle opponents or score with the jab at range it was used to set up offensive attacks IMO.

    Hi Buddy.
You are right he did have slow feet, wasn't called shuffling Joe, for nothing, but those feet got him in a position to unload his powerful hooks and uppercuts, and once in distance few could withstand the punches that would follow.
    stay safe WB.
    Mike.
