Boxing is lacking in super stars, Who are the next super stars?

• The superstar weight class, HW division, seems to have a bunch of potential future stars, Itauma, Dubois, Teremoana, Huni and more.

 

Super stars will only come from the us or britain. Itauma is a candidate. Dubois still might be young enough, and when usyk is gone or just a bit older he is one of the top guys.

Then guys like Schofield or mason or moton?

Benavidez will soon be one, he is on the path. The hype after zurdo was bigger than it should have been, so he will be handled accordingly.

Stevenson might go the mayweather route, where many want him to lose.

Bam is too small obviously, bivol and inoue from the wrong countries. But tsuboi will probably be the next inoue.

Ituama certainly a possibility due to age and being unbeaten.

Dubois and I'm a fan, no . He's been beaten several times and frankly is awkward in front of the media, superstar boxers either have that aura of mystery in being unbeaten or able to avenge defeats (Usyk no chance a third fight lost 3 already 2nd comprehensive) and or great self salesmen when interviewed.

 

Itauma also has the aggressive style.

Dubois could come out on top when usyk is aged or gone. If so, i think he would become a big Star. If he has a period where he ko's a bunch of guys, looking menacing, they will find a way to make him fit some category for people to connect to. Either as the big bad destroyer or englands boxing savior or something. I think for him it depends on whether he can become undisputed and have a few good defenses in a row. But being english, super muscular and the best heavyweight should be enough

 

Nobody active in boxing right now has superstar power, the general public has no idea who these people are. The promoters can’t do all the work and it’s up to the boxer to do it properly but nobody does it.

 

If ryan garcia was a bit better and had fewer breakdowns, he would be the one

 

Benavidez and Itauma they are the two posssible super stars for me but this is Boxing,one minute your a top fighter/contender the next minute your possibly exposed and never as good as advertised !

 

It's hard to manufacture a super star. There's a lot of great fighters who never became super stars. Many of them were exceptionally skillful, exciting, and even likable, but that wasn't enough. Look at Inoue for example. You would think he's got all the makings of a global superstar.

He's very skillful, but still just flawed enough to occasionally cause some drama. He's fighting high-level competition. He's extremely exciting. A super fast and athletic knockout artist. He's carrying a country on his back. That can help a lot with stardom, but it's not enough by itself, either. He gave us an all-time classic back and forth fight with Donaire. But, for whatever reason, he hasn't translated to the public. The language barrier doesn't help, but there have been plenty of non-English speaking (or at least less than fluent) global superstars before. Fighting in a very small weight class and barely fighting in America doesn't help, either.

There's has to be something about them which is almost indescribable that captives the general public. It's not always the same thing, either. Manny Pacquaio and Mike Tyson had polar opposite personalities, but they both captured people's imaginations, both in and outside the ring. It's an "it" factor. As they say, you just know it when you see it. It's not something that's restricted to one type of boxing style, either.

This problem isn't just restricted to boxing, either. Look at the NBA. None of their stars really resonate with the general public like Bird, Magic, and Jordan did. This is just a theory, but you could say that millennials and zoomers are just more boring personality wise, too. Even in wider society in general, there's less "characters" around now then there used to be.

I think you just have to wait until one arrives. You'll know pretty quickly when you see someone with the makings of one. Then it's just a matter if they've actually got the goods or not.

Bam is too small but Inoue isn’t? They’re about the same size, with Inoue weighting a bit more. If anything, Inoue’s lack of speaking English is a bigger problem for international stardom.

issue for both is their size I guess, unfortunately. because both give you anything you could want in the ring other than size (unless I guess you like sloppiness and gassing out).

I’m thinking…. Ryan Garcia possibly, if he had the professionalism of some of his contemporaries when it came to training and learning? He’s got the star power thing down.

 

He’s 37. If he were 27, I’d say yep, he’s the next big star, and feel pretty good about the prediction. What a pile of talent and potential that guy is.
