They have both agreed to a catchweight of 144 on social media, with it then being posted on The Ring’s YouTube feed.
It could be, but recently Shakur has started to evolve his style and he basically beat Teo 12-0 fighting on the front foot, I think he’d do a similar job on the front foot to Haney if he wanted to
He did it on the back foot waiting for Teo to come in and wouldn't go for it even when he had him hurt
Yeah he does fight more at closer range I wouldn't call it on the front foot but he is excellent at judging distance so he is always out of range it's clever boxing but still makes for a stinker add to the fact he has no power.
Turki makes fights happen, give him that This is no fight, it will be a running contest with antics thrown in.
When two outboxers fight and have around the same level of skill, you have to favor the one with the longer reach.
Stylistically Haney should be a bad match up for Shakur because Shakur isn’t as competent of the front foot and is outsized but I already saw them spar and Shakur beat him up
I actually don’t think Haney’s fights have been that boring. He really only becomes defensive after he gets hit hard. As others have said in this thread, Shakur has become more offensive lately. Haney is quite a bit bigger than Stevenson is and I can see Shakur reverting to his old form in an effort get a safe decision.
Absolutely horrible matchup in terms of pure entertainment. These 2 agreeing to anything on social media should be taken with a pinch of salt; for most of their day, they sit around arguing on the internet. I'll believe it when it is signed, and the press conference happens, but I won't be punching the air for joy, either if it does.
I was just thinking a couple of days ago that we haven't had a catchweight in a title fight since the days of Caneloweight lol. Anyway, kudos to Haney if he makes concessions to get the fight made, but I favour Shakur.
Man... this is one for the diehards and the purists. No casuals will be watching this one, and if for some reason they do, they'll probably decide 'Nah boxing's boring, not for me.' I've always wanted to see it though, as it would be a fascinating match-up. I think Stevenson is just a level above Haney though. Surprised Turki would be up for seeing this though, what with his Tom and Jerry comments. It's a matchup I would never expect to get made, slick boxers are usually paired with brawlers/punchers, but it makes a change. I'm down.
Devin Haney is a ****ing boss. Look at dude's resume. He wants the smoke. People hate on Haney - and hes annoying - but hes exactly what all of us want in a fighter. Takes the hard fights and performs reasonably well in all of them. I thought he lost a close decision to Loma and I would've been fine w a draw. Obviously he lost RyGa who was juiced to the gills. And I didnt like how he hugged for dear life against Linares, but thats dissecting things. Haney has alrdy fought Loma, Linares, Norman Jr, Kambosos, Prograis, Gamboa, and even battled through the RyGa fight. There's one ATG victory (I felt shouldve been a draw) in there and some HOFers. And now he's going to fight Shakur? I **** with Haney even if I dont love his personality/his weird attempt at being gangsta...at carnivals lol
