Mayweather v Duran

They were very good fighters.

And Floyd was a genius.

Especially as ‘PBF’ when he was an exciting fighter, where he was offensive and aggressive.

 

Lol, Freudian slip. Duran crushes Floyd, who has one of the most padded records in existence.

It would be nice to have a proper debate though.


Just out interest, how many of those champs do you think would have been champs in Duran’s era?

Obviously nobody knows.

But it’s fun to ponder.


Floyd was a genius.

But his stats aren’t as impressive as what many people think.


Look at Duran’s era:


Less belts/orgs.

Less weight classes.

Same day weigh-ins.

More top quality opposition.


Many of Floyd’s opponents would never have been champions in that era.


No ‘Canelo-weight’ back then.

With a same day weigh-in and Canelo’s crazy rehydration weights, he’d have found himself fighting between MW-LHW back in the 70’s and 80’s.

Look at who some of his opponents might have been.


Floyd himself also could never have retired at 50-0, had he have fought the best guys within his weights, like Roberto did. He fought prime monsters at the weight.

Floyd could never have retired with 16/17 champs on his resume.


Floyd’s stats are geared towards the modern day casual fans, who have little knowledge, but who’ll lap up the zero.

 

I wil repeat myself:

Duran has the upper hand and if catches Floyd, it is over.

But Gayweather has a chance of pulling an upset.

Of course that means jumping into his bycicle and running a full Tour de France while snipping Duran with flurry shots for cheaps points.

Very difficult to achieve; but if Floyd is able to summon his inner Sugar Ray Leonard, he could survive.

 

He wouldn’t have banked enough rounds with those tactics.

We are not in disagreement here.

Sure Duran is not one-punch-man, he is not Hearns; but if Floyd allows himself to be caught and cornered, he will be in a world of pain.

Gayweather is not surviving a brawl with Duran; thus we are back to square one: Floyd has a chance if he stays clean of brawls and relies on running around snipping points. Very difficult to do but not impossible.
