Daniel Dubois’s supposed one punch knockout power

I pretty much agree with everything except Dubois............

 

Yeah, gotta love the "clear he's a heavy hitter" followed by zero evidence.

Can Dubios hit hard? Sure, but he's below the Wilder or Zhangs of the division.

 

I think you need to consider the opposition Dubois has faced as well.

Miller is a 320+ lbs concrete block head and supplemented to the brim. Hrgovic is 6'6 with (alongside Wardley) the best chin in the division. AJ is criticized for having a glass chin, but it's still a 6'6 250' powerhouse. Wardley's chin is insane and he was still (momentarily) out on his feet with his eyes rolling to the back of the head at times during the fight.

Joe Joyce also had the best chin in the division before Zhang cracked it.

Add to all of this that sparring partners of Dubois have said his jab is the most powerful they've been hit by.

Imo this would at least earn him an 8+/10 rating.

 

For sure Dubois hits hard, the point is it seems like hes more of a concussive volume puncher. Every shot is hard, every shot can put you down, but he rarely puts people away with a single shot, a one shot and its done. It seems like fighters tend to be able to take shots and then a couple of rounds later they get stopped. When i think of all the Dubois stoppages, especially at the highest level, i just dont see him as a one punch knockout artist. He can most definitely change the course of a fight or a round with one shot but when we are talking one shot lights out no count, it doesnt seem like the power is of that caliber.

That being said, ive got him as one of the hardest hitting heavyweights out there for sure, just not that high in my One punch knockout category.

 

Any heavyweight has knockout power, whether they use it or not. Many sacrifice power for speed until an opportunity presents. Daniel needs to look hard at why he was sat down a couple of times early against an inferior boxer with vastly less experience.

 

Your right but he looked like Foreman against AJ right after he beat Wallin and Ngannou. Was AJ overrated at the time? Yup of course he was. But in a division where top fighters fight once in a blue man that's the hallmark KO victory of recent times.

 

What Dubois really has is a piston-like heavy handed jab - maybe his backhand power shots ae not the creme de la creme power wise, but his jab is as heavy as i can remember seeing, and that's bloody effective when he gets it going

 

He's probably like AJ power, dangerous puncher, but not icing people as quickly as Wlad, Zhang, Wilder. The power is probably a bit overrated, yeah.
What we need is a rematch against AJ to test this theory and see how fast AJ gets KO'd again.

 

He's a big puncher - maybe lacks a bit of snap or speed on the right hand to make it a true nuclear weapon like Wilder carried

The one he has is brutal, smashed up Miller, Hrgovich who are big big guys who can take a dig and put Wardley down a couple of times. So far a prime Joyce with a granite chin at that time, and a boxing wizard have been able to handle him really.

23 wins? 22 stoppages against a good level of competition - saying he's an average puncher is wild to be honest. One of the biggest active punchers in the division - he punches harder than Wilder does these days. So you could argue its between DD and Wardley for 2nd place in the punching stakes.

 

I thought there are different types of power and each type requires different set of conditions to be effective. Wilder needs extension and speed. Joe Joyce needs to be in front of you- same with old foreman. Usyk needs weight behind from ground up + accuracy. How do you even compare across these types?

 

This really ain't difficult. Diglett does have big time power, but his punching technique is pretty much garbage. To get 1 hitter quitter KOs you need timing and accuracy more than you need power. Diglett has neither. That's why he mashes dudes up instead of just straight turning their lights off.

 

Whoever made this post got this from Tyson Fury and doesn't truly understand what power is. Dubois has great Ko power and probably the best in the division currently. But their also other aspects to being a KO artist such as precision and setting up shots which I believe Dubois has some improving to do in this department. If we are talking purely from a power perspective hes probably the best right now.

 

Joyce was also very wary against Dubois, used a jab and a lot of movement. He stood opposite Zhang and ate shots for 6 rounds, didn't get put down, and was stopped medically. If he'd just stood opposite Dubois, maybe he gets stopped faster, and put down in fight 1.
