Is Antonio Tarver a Hall of famer?

Not HOF career in my opinion but the standard has been pretty low to get in.

Tarver was a World Championship gold medalist as an amateur and also won an Olympic bronze medal. In fact, he's the only US World Championships gold medallist who went on to unify multiple major championships as a professional. So, he's one of the few who reached the very top of amateur and pro. He's also gone into broadcasting with great aplomb. Without sounding too harsh, if Benn and Hatton are in there, there's no reason for Tarver not to be, either. But the bar should be higher, and if I were making the rules for the HOF, he wouldn't make it in.

 

The criteria for induction into the Hall of Fame have been relaxed for some time now, so I think Tarver deserves to be inducted. In the IBHOF there are Mancini, Pazienza and Corrales, so I think Casamayor, Castillo, and Freitas could easily be inducted. Then, this year, Benn is being inducted and I think it's only right that Eubank be inducted as well. I don't think Chris has less legacy than his great rival Nigel.

 

Maybe? It is such a low bar. The IBHOF is no mount Olympus anymore

To me there’s hall of fame and then there’s all time great and kinda of border between. Carl Froch is the perfect representation of that to me, really I’d say a fighter like Froch should be the lower end of the hall of fame and you’d have to rival a fighter that great to get in. Imo he is just short of being an all time great but he’s worthy of being in a hall of fame. It’s supposed to be very exclusive but they seem to want to put a lot of good fighters in when great should be the minimum. Tim Bradley was a good fighter I don’t think he is a hall of famer quality though but there’s been worse who have been put in. Tarver has two legit wins over Jones Jr and a couple of other decent scalps, he has far more a case than Bradley. Froch fought a murderers row, but he has nothing near a RJJ on his resume.

 

Tarver beat 6 of the top 10 LHW's of his era and fought 8 of them. NABF, USBA double. Tarver is nowhere close to being a borderline case.

Tarver and Johnson being old got ignored because of Hopkins.

This is absurd. Bradley beat 8 140 world champions and about a dozen total. He has no unavenged losses and his only losses are 8-4 decisions to Manny Pacquiao. He is in the greatest ever conversation at a weight class.

 

General consensus I remember was Bradley was poorly received as a hall of famer but admitted he was a very good fighter. Not everyone needs to be an all time great, just depends where you think hall of fame entry requirements should end and begin. He was an elite fighter for a long time, even the Witter win early on was an impressive victory and he built on that well. He is joined by Cotto, Pacquiao, Mosley, Mayweather and Marquez from that era if I remember, I wonder if we will see anyone else from around that era in the hall. I don’t think anyone else did enough, obviously Crawford. It’s a shame we didn’t see Bradley cross the street with the haymon / top rank ****. Crawford getting fights against the other side cemented his greatness, I would’ve liked to see Tim fight a couple more elite opponents in his later career such as Thurman, Spence, Porter, Khan, Maidana, Garcia, Brook.
