Why Joe Frazier beats Marciano.

All I know is Anthony Joshua win against Jake Paul sets me alight

 

I don't know who to pick. Marciano is smaller, but hits hard enough to hurt Frazier, especially if he hit Frazier with as many shots as Ali did. Luckily for Frazier, Marciano wasn't as accurate as Ali. So he'd miss alot more. On the other hand, Frazier is faster and that left hook of his wasn't no mickey mouse punch. Would be a war, I pick Frazier but if Marciano was more accurate I might pick him.

 

When Archibald Lee Wright started fighting, he had to lie about his age and made himself 6 yrs older. Archie clarified that after his career and admitted to making himself older. Prior to Moore fighting Marciano, he was on his biggest win streak - from 11/15/48 till 9/21/55 Archie only lost 2X in 78 fights, once by a disqualification and the other a disputed decision to ATG Harold Johnson that Archie avenged -Achie beat Harold Johnson 3 times and the last by TKO in 14 - He was on a 21-fight win streak heading to title shot vs Rocky beating the likes of Harold Johnson tko, Embrel Davidson, Clarence Henry 33-3 (who ko'd Bob Baker) Jimmy Slade, Joey Maxim3X, Nino Valdes 2X, KO8 Bob Baker, Bert Whitehurst TKO 6 - Archie basically eliminated 2 divisions - Heavyweight and Light heavyweight and the in-between fighters at the time and Archie still holds the record of KO's at 132 - Marciano did give Archie a frightful beating and battering and it is amazing that after The brutal Marciano KO loss Moore he was able to amass a 37-3-2 record - only losing to Patterson, Guilio Rinaldi and Ali - Archie beat guys like Bert Whitehurst by stop (something Liston failed to do in 2 fights) beat Willie Besmanoff, Roger Richer, Rinaldi, and other Heavy's and L Heavy's

Mathis was on his way down when the ref saved him vs Frazier and Buster was the top contender and amateur star.

As far as the 5"10 180 lb. Bob Satterfield, he KO'd 35-1 Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams in 3 in 1954, KO'd 30-2 -Bob Baker in 1 rd. and WUD in 10 over Nino Valdes in 1955 (dropping 6"3 Nino for a 9 count in the 10th) In 1954 When Ezzard impressively KO'd Satterfield in 2 - Satterfield was fresh off a 1 round KO over #1 heavyweight contender Bob Baker and 6'3 Ray Augustus

 

I can see arguments which favor either man over the other. All I can say is that this would be an absolute dog fight on the inside. Neither guy’s face would be pretty at the end

Even if you said everything else was equal you have 20 pounds more of muscle and your quicker too that’s a difficult advantage to overcome. Actually there are other advantages reach height skin much less prone to cut. Marciano was known for toughness power punching and getting in tremendous shape. So was Frazier. Rocky gets in some hard shots it could be a brawl for a while but sheer physics is on Fraziers side and the smaller man will fall eventually.

Marciano tried to stay as close to 190 as he could but remember 5"10 Mike Tyson was in the under 200 lb. class as an amateur losing to Tillis in the Olympic trail runoffs - Tyson put on 15lbs of Muscle when he turned pro and so did 175lb Michael Spinks and 200llb Usyk - James Toney who was 5"9 -160 - Marciano could have easily gained 20 lbs. of muscle by concentrating on muscle gain and less crazy cardio - for me that is nonissue - the issue would be power in both hands and late power ( both men had that) Frazier had a great hook -Marciano had both hands and maintained his prime and conditioning better - either way - a NO BS fight

 

Ten of those 21 wins were over light heavies.
Five of the others were over 3 rd raters.
I think you will find that only Henry and Valdes,[ 2nd fight,] were Ring ranked out of that bunch of heavyweights.

Who did Davidson and Augustus beat? Archie Moore's Mother said he was 41 when he fought Marciano,I think she would know.Moore never mentioned pretending he was older in his interview with Pete Heller in fact he did the opposite!
20 yrs old Williams was a last minute sub for the Satterfield fight,he was thrown in over his head. Mathis was never a top ranked contender.

 

Here is a fight that Joe can (MIGHT) actually win

the only reason I favor him is because of how slow the Rock is and the fact that he would be outweighed

 

Archie beat Nino Valdes 2X in that time period and Clarence Henry and let me add Bob Baker in 54 all top heavyweight contenders - he also stopped Bert Whitehurst, UD Joey Maxim and Harold Johnson in 1954 by tko, at the time Archie stopped Johnson, Harold J was on a winning streak of 12 fights beating Nino Valdes, Bob Satterfield, Billy Gilliam (who beat Nino Valdes) Ezzard Charles so Archie was very qualified and dangerous

 

Marciano had very heavy hands as we know, but weighing around 190lb a modern small crusierweight with 10lb to spare! He would trade to get his own shots off against the Frazier swarming bob and weave style.

War of attrition, both would come out with damage, I favour Frazier but if it went the other way wouldn't shock me at all!

 

I just told you Valdes was only Ring ranked for the 2nd fight and Baker wasnt ranked.

I didnt say Moore didnt deserve a chance, I just took issue with you, over inflating the significance of most of his wins,as you have again done by mentioning Whitehurst who was 18-3-0 and Gilliam who was 30-15-2,and 2 light heavyweights!

 

At the time there were many excellent fighters campaigning in Heavyweight and light heavyweight division., many of them beat the bigger men, Harold Johnson was one and Archie dominated both divisions. Baker was a top contender but got KO'd by Bob Satterfield in 1 and Nino lost to Gilliam, but Harold Johnson beat Gillian and Nino Valdes and Clarence Henry, Ezzard Charles and Eddie Machen and Satterfield and Archie beat Harold Johnson 3X (who also campaigned in both divisions.

Look at who Archie beat and who they beat.
I don't think Archie Moore needs inflation.

 

How many guys like Frazier fought Rocky?

I wonder if Rocky ever faced the sort of relentless asphixiating pressure Smoking Joe brought to the ring. Rocky would be in unknown territory, he would be the one taking more punishment.
