Who did worse: Usyk against Rico or Fury against Ngannou?

Both heavyweight champions had off nights against a kickboxer and a UFC fighter respectively but who did worse and why?

 

Both as bad as each other,both took the easy money route whilst holding the Division up,both never bothered to train properly,both never took the fights seriously,both thought they just had to turn up to win and both gave Proffessional Boxing a Black Eye !

 

Fury. Usyk dropped Rico and was about to stop him. Fury was very tentative vs Ngannou and Ngannou knocked him down.

Ngannou took up combat sports in his 20's, whereas Rico has been fighting and kickboxing since he was a child.

 

Usyk was caught out by Verhoeven who was much better than he expected, but ultimately he still turned things around and got a stoppage victory. On the other hand Fury was dropped and in the eyes of many an impartial observer deserved to lose the fight on the scorecards. So most definitely Fury was much worse (I can also add, in my uninformed opinion, Verhoeven was a much more formidable opponent as far as crossover fighters go.)

 

Good lord how is this a question? Fury won a MD after being knocked down. Usyk won by KO.

 

Fury did worse and was quite fortunate the judges favoured him. Usyk still pulled off the win even if the stoppage was premature.

 

Fury.

 

Usyk vs Rico was 12 rounds, Ngannou vs Fury was 10 rounds. If Usyk vs Rico was 10 rounds Usyk should’ve lost 8-2. Usyk did worse.

 

Both looked bad, but Fury looked worse.

 

Then Usyk would turn the gear up earlier, it's all "if". The point is that Ngannou dropped Fury, Usyk dropped Rico.

 

Fury deserved the win against Ngannou narrowly IMO, but got dropped and went the distance.

Usyk was losing decisively, but got the stoppage and didn’t get dropped.

It’s subjective.

 

Ngannou honestly deserved to win because of the unscored KD.

Usyk stopped Rico fair and square.

On the other hand losing to Ngannou is more forgivable. Ngannou had much more relevant boxing experience. You can logically explain why Ngannou is a unique threat.

 

Fury, he got dropped by Ngannou. In the end Usyk dropped Rico.

 

This is objectively not true. Ngannou might have trained a little bit of boxing as a teenager, but nothing significant. Then he moved to MMA where all he ever did was throw wild haymakers.

Rico has been training combat sports since he was like 6 years old. He has spent the past 15 years training with Peter Fury and sparring Tyson Fury. And his sport is kickBOXING. He's 1000% the boxer Ngannou is or anyone else in MMA for that matter.

As far as who did worse, it's clearly Fury by a mile. He got knocked on his ass. He barely squeaked a split decision when a 2nd KD wasn't called and where he wasn't docked a point for the most egregious elbow I've ever seen thrown in a boxing match. Meanwhile, Usyk was tied on two cards and behind by 2 points on a third. He was never in trouble in the fight or hurt. Then he smashed Rico and made the ref wave it. Even if the ref hadn't, he'd have been up by 2 points on 2 cards and tied on the 3rd with a 12th round coming up where he'd have obliterated Rico. Even if you're living in magical Christmas land and think Rico doesn't get dropped and/or stopped, there's zero way he wins that round and Usyk gets a clean UD on the cards.

 

If you look at MMA's HW division during the 2010's when Ngannou was fighting it was heavily boxing based and was in practice a different sport from the rest of MMA.

A large percentage of the fighters were one punch KO artists trying to get the KO right away because they weren't that good but could hit hard. Because these fighters were exciting that's who the UFC rostered. When everyone's doing this that's what everyone trains for. A few minutes of rock em sock em robots where it's accepted someone's going to sleep. So this was heavily specialized boxing training an actual professional boxer wouldn't have reason to have because it wouldn't make sense.

Ngannou might not have been good at the rest of boxing but at knocking people down he was an expert. Like I said he was a unique threat.

There's also the build. If you looks through the annuals of HW history there just aren't 6'4 275 pounders who are actually in shape. That's not a boxer build.
