If he added the WBC to his collection then retired and STAYED retired it might have moved him up a hair. In addition to gaining another belt he’d also eliminate two losses in that scenario
Yeah, this is clear, but I'm just asking about Bermane Stiverne as an opponent, not a WBC title holder.
Given how Wlad looked in 2015 (going the distance with Jennings and losing to Fury without putting up much of a fight) ... how dominant Stiverne was in the Arreola rematch ... and given Wlad's history with Ross Puritty and Lamon Brewster and other durable guys who weren't easily folded ... I don't even know if Wlad beats Stiverne in 2015. If Wlad unified against Bermane, it would've arguably been the biggest win of Wlad's career. It would've not only been for all the belts, but Stiverne was rated #2 by Ring in 2015. * How many times did Wlad beat someone who was ranked #1 by Ring (the only spot higher than #2) when he faced them in his whole career? (Not many.) * And how many times was that win more valuable than unifying all the belts? (Not any.) Sorry haters, but beating Stiverne (given those two factors) in 2015 likely would've been the crowning achievement of Wlad's career and his biggest win. And I'm not even sure in 2015 if he could've done it. Had he done so, I don't even know if Wlad fights Fury. Wlad may have retired as champ at 64-3 right there having achieved his dream. And anyone who retires as champ gets a perceptible boost from that, historically. All in all, it would've been a monster win.
I think Stiverne is one of the 5 or 10 WORST title holders in history. So, a win by Wlad over Stiverne adds very little to his legacy.
If Wilder, who can't box, could outjab and 12-0 Stiverne, Wlad would have dominated and stopped him. Even in 2014. He had one of his best career performances against Pulev at that age. And Pulev is a better fighter than Stiverne. Was rated higher by The Ring also. Saying that would be the best win of his career is hilarious, lol. Wlad beat number 1 rated HW by The Ring twice: Povetkin and Pulev. Both better than Stiverne. He also beat number 3 rated Chagaev and Haye, who are also better than Stiverne. Chagaev was more valuable cause it re-established the HW lineage and Povetkin win was more valuable cause it made Wlad the universally recognized champion. Wlad was basically undisputed between December 2013 and May 2014. Adding another belt would be cool, but wouldn't change his status.
Stiverne’s one out against an old Wlad would be marching at him and hoping he gassed out. He did march forward against Wilder all night despite taking a horrible beating and occasionally threw hard shots back at him.
Two boxers pulled it off on a Wlad who wasn’t in his prime. Stiverne was cut from a similar mold as them.
