It's a real shame that we'll likely see Benavidez-Mikaelian instead of the much more interesting Benavidez-Opetaia. Dana White, with his bizarre ideas, is depriving us of one of the most interesting fights boxing has to offer today, it's incredible. And it's a shame that a fighter like Opetaia can't face the fighters he deserves to face (the best fights, the best), his legacy will suffer. With all due respect to CBS, who will likely be the Australian's next opponent and whom I admire because he's a great warrior.

He seems to be a decent human to me, and he has a belt so he's far from a bum.

I think benavidez is depriving us just as much as Dana.

I definitely don't think so. Benavidez is the WBO and WBA cruiserweight champion, titles he earned with a great performance against Zurdo Ramirez. Benavidez has also said he's ready to face both Bivol and Opetaia, and his career shows he's never shied away from anyone. If White's bizarre ideas make it impossible to organize a match with Opetaia, that's not Benavidez's fault. In the past, I've heard idiotic Opetaia fanboys insult Zurdo Ramirez. It's a terrible thing to disrespect fighters, it's just the work of idiotic fanboys.

I think Opetaia's deluding himself at this point about becoming undisputed... he was stupid to sign with Zuffa if he really wanted that to happen. As far as the Bald Goof is concerned (to steal Sherdog's nickname for him), he's Zuffa champion, therefore he's already undisputed. And he doesn't like fighters fighting outside of his promotion. Opetaia should just move up to heavyweight. Everyone knows he's number 1 anyway.

People blaming DB for not fighting Ope, who signed to Zuffa, which was not the smartest move, is beyond laughable

Yes, he's clearly the top dog in the division and he would also bring more money than any other opponent for Benavidez at CV, since Turki wants the fight. So this looks like a duck to me.

Ironically, Canelo got the same criticism when he unified 168.

You guys are funny. Neither benavidez nor opetaia are mainly responsible. Boxing business is. What do you think why he signed with zuffa?

Opetaia couldn't get opponents before. He is australian. And amazingly even though he has one of the most exciting styles in boxing, arguably the most exciting even, apparently he isn't marketable to any casuals. With zuffa he at least has the hope that they throw some money down to get him good opponents.

So everyone steered around him even before. Since the briedis fights, he is clearly the best in the division and yet CBS apparently didn't find a reason to fight him and zurdo didn't either.

Now benavidez is in the picture, because he fought his former sparring partner and now maybe he fights another winnable fight that will look impressive for having moved up. He didn't need to go to cruiser and if opetaia was holding all the belts, he wouldn't have an incentive to do so.

So it doesn't matter that opetaia lost the belt. He wouldn't have gotten the fights either way.

Benavidez already said he was going to move back down and not fight opetaia. Now he can say what he wants, because of boxing politics preventing the fight anyways. Benavidez would lose. He has no footwork. Opetaia does have a good in and out and has grit af. And benavidez is not a ko artist. Bad Style matchup and size as well.

This way benavidez is using the canelo playbook. Going up the weight when convenient and fighting the fighters that are convenient to face. Super middle worked out fine for canelo and benavidez not keeping his belt worked out even better. Canelo was calling himself the best of super middle without ever facing the obvious threat benavidez.

Now benavidez is collecting belts at cruiser without facing the obviously best, opetaia.

Semmingly his team learned from the shameless enemy.

And by the way for anyone who is in favor of the way this is happening:

Without being so lucky to have the cruiser tournament at the right time, usyk might never have gotten the fights to become undisputed. Thus he would not have gotten the chance to have the big fights in heavy. And he would have gone down in history as a very good cruiser.

That's what this shitshow does to our sport

Also anyone claiming any other fight at cruiser is as big as the opetaia fight for benavidez is lying.

Belts be damned. Half the forum is hating on the abc organizations, but now that their favorite cash cow has a reason not to fight the best while collecting belts in the same division, suddenly the belts legitimize such behaviour.

    Such a joke
