I watched both of these fights last night (it's not like the Origin was worth watching). Marlon kept it long & outboxed the other bloke easily from one of the minor Stans (i.e. not Kazakhastan or Uzbekistan). He's our #1 Light Heavy despite not getting the Commonwealth Games gig. The other fight involving Jye Dixon is the reason I didn't post earlier today (or last night). No-one likes a whinger & it's a bit hard to give honest views on some of these fights without being one. Jye is our best male amateur. I said a little while ago that he's at Olympic medal winning standard right now & I stand by that. Some of the officiating he's copping in these overseas tournaments is hard to take. At the World Boxing Cup in Brazil he was getting right on top of a very well credentialed Japanese only to have the ref out of nowhere decide to deduct a point midway through the second round. Last night was another close contest with the same Japanese (or should have been) except the ref decided to dock our bloke a point in both the second & third rounds. The fight was messy but both guys were to blame. Only one had points deducted. Even the judging was unsatisfactory. The first round was close. Jye landed some solid shots that I thought may have edged it on a scorecard or two. Nope. 5-0 to the Japanese. It's tough being a fan of this sport sometimes. Between the professional sanctioning bodies taking belts off our best fighters & the biased crap I witnessed last night with Jye Dixon's fight, gaining some enjoyment from this sport atm is proving tough. Jye might need to lose the rat's tail hairdo to start getting a fair go with the officials.

Jye Dixon will be an exciting professional, talent skill and built for the rough tough stuff. Officials seemed a little one sided I agree. To the referee defense he gave plenty cautions. Not sure how I feel about 5-0 but at least its consistent. I would like to see Jye clean up that style since he has the shots in his arsenal. If hes to meet his potential he might need to conform a little more to the olympic style officiating. Rules dont tolerate messy boxing. Otherwise Im still very impressed with Dixon, doing us proud.

Yep, brothers. A good mate of mine is an old boxer/trainer/ref who knows them quite well, and he had me chatting with Matt on FB one day about 8 years ago, which was a buzz.

Throwback fight. Julian Holland vs Shannon Taylor. I watched highlights before and vs Shane Mosely. He got battered. Loved those fights on fox sports.

Great post. Shannan was sensational back in the day. They took way too long to get him his title shot.

August 8th will be a big night for our girls.

Cherneka Johnson will defend her belt collection against arguably the best in the division, Dina Thorslund.

On the undercard, Desley Robinson will defend her IBF and WBO belts against Tammara Thibeault.

Tough night for the ladies. Thorslund is really the Lineal champ of her division. Cherneka has all the belts but if you really want to be considered "Undisputed", you need to beat the Lineal champ. Good to see Cherneka embracing the challenge rather than running from it like some are inclined to do. The Canadian Thibeault was my pick for the Gold Medal in the Middleweight division at the Paris Olympics. She ended up going out in the first round after winning all the lead-up tournaments. Can fight so a tough one for Desley.

As a U.S. boxing fan, I'm happy to see Australian boxing getting some time in the spotlight recently. I honestly think there's a decent chance the Tszyu vs. Spencer card ends up 3–0 for the Australian fighters. If Fulton is in shape, the Wilson fight could end up being a FOTY contender. I hope Mazoudier lands a clean hook on Charlo's chin and knocks him out.
