Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgovic - 29 Aug

I would love to see a thread from you ranking all the top heavyweight chins in order. I am genuinely curious.

 

moses stops him. it will be an accumulation of fast punches across a few rds that hrgovic cant get out of the way of. not a lot of difference in level as far as skill, but moses has a significant athletic and reactive advantage.

 

Zakman - as the resident chinchecker on this forum, I'm intrigued by why you think Itauma has a suspect chin? I think the most suspect thing about him at the moment is his gas tank. Multiple sparring stories against Wardley, Dubois, and AJ have penned him as having at least a decent set of whiskers. The only one disputing it is Chisora, and he's come up with so many unreliable tales over the years to garner attention online. Have you heard something I haven't?

Shane McGuigan is on record saying Dubois struggled with Itauma in sparring, and Anthony Yarde is on record saying he's seen enough of him in sparring to know his chin isn't an issue. He wasn't stopped or dropped as an amateur, and hasn't been stopped, dropped, or hurt as a pro.

 

It may be an issue as Itauma was never properly hit by anyone as a pro.

Itauma himself has admitted being dropped twice in sparring, admittedly not by Dubois, AJ or Wardley.

We don't know whether Hrgovic will test his chin though. Hrgovic doesn't have one-punch power, so he can score KO only if Itauma has glass whiskers, or he needs to land many shots.

 

Yeah, Itauma admitted he was dropped twice, but that was when he was 14 and 16. Considering Okolie had him in for sparring when he was 15, I can only imagine he was actually dropped by professional boxers, or promising senior amateurs at that age, which is a testament to how good he actually is.

There are no reports of him being knocked out or hurt in these exchanges, especially not since he turned pro, and he's sparred all of the best British heavyweights of his generation. Unless he had been badly hurt in the pro or amateur ranks, I think any notion he has a bad chin is completely unwarranted for now, unless I have missed something.

 

I'm picking Itauma by late TKO on cuts or a British stoppage.

However, Itauma's pacing issues and gas tank could become an important factor in this match. If he doesn't manage his energy well and throws too many punches trying to get the iron-chinned Hrgovic out of there, I could see him getting outworked down the stretch and losing a decision.

 

Winchell Janx is going to spank both of these guys if they just sign the contract.

 

It's because his brother, Karol Itauma, has a chin made of glass. Personally, I don't think he's chinny. However, he's constantly moving in and out, so there's always a chance he gets caught coming in. If that happens, I could definitely see him getting knocked out.

 

At heavyweight, anything can happen. I just don't think there's any actual solid evidence to state that Itauma has a suspect chin. Unless by suspect chin he means "unknown," which I can agree with. Yeah, I've never subscribed to the genetic idea. Wlad had a questionable chin, for instance, but Vitali had a granite one. We've seen a similar thing play out with Adam Azim: people think that because he's a British Asian, he has the same bad chin as Amir Khan, despite nothing to suggest he has a bad chin yet.

 

What am I missing here?? I admittedly haven’t seen too much of Hrgovic, but I think he’ll be an easy target for Itauma. Hrgovic is big, tough, and isn’t afraid to throw. I like that. However, his high ranking speaks more to the state of the division than to his talent… In my humble opinion. Itauma wins without difficulty unless he hurts his hands on Hrgovic’s head.

 

I don’t even think Hrgovic will train properly for this fight. Mentally, he’s already done with boxing, and he knows he’ll never become a champion.

He’s taking this fight just to build up Itauma and collect his paycheck. Besides, there isn’t a single high-caliber fighter he has beaten in his career anyway. Only a 600 year old Zhang in a close fight and a shot Joyce.

 

This is a big step up from Franklin and would be Itauma's first non-journeyman opponent. Hrgovic is a solid top 5-10 HW.

21 year old, 14-0 Itauma is under a lot of pressure (which I don't think he handles especially well from seeing some of his interviews), he's never been past 6 rounds, never been seriously hit in a pro fight, never had to adapt, display/conserve stamina or show heart. He also seems to have low intelligence, but maybe his ring intelligence is better.

However, Itauma will have a generous helping of A-side advantage: the cards will be favourable, his fouls will barely be punished if at all while Hrgovic is harangued, and the referee wlll be quick to stop the fight in his favour but slow to stop it otherwise, and will even obstuct Hrgovic.

This is why Itauma will be a big favourite, despite the fight looking very dangerous on paper. How many 21 year old HW's in history are better than 34 year old Hrgovic? Is it just Tyson?

 

The guy that literally gets picked to give people rounds, rather than any particularly special boxing ability or knockout power, beats Hrgovic. Okay. I'm pretty sure this is a lame attempt at a troll but I'll pretend it's serious. I wouldn't call Franklin a journeyman, because he arguably beat Whyte, and journeymen don't do that, but still that performance is aging worse and worse the more Whyte fights. I mean, Whyte then struggled to get rid of Tetteh, who then went on to get demolished by Frazer Clarke and made to quit by boring Okolie.

I assume you think he'd win on points somehow, considering he seems to have pillows for fists, and Hrgovic has an iron chin. Don't get me wrong, I could easily see him taking Hrgovic the distance... it would probably be an awful fight in the same way the Hrgovic-McKean one was.

 

See my post above. Hrgovic has beaten nobody notable so far. A 600 year old ancient Zhang (where he knocked down Hrgovic in 1st round and many believe Zhang won that fight) and a shot Joyce.

Dubois literally destroyed him. Hrgovic is so basic, slow, predictable and hittable. He has no tricks, no surprises, no movement. The only thing he does is one twos.

Franklin has better fundamentals and moves better. He beats Hrgovic by UD.
