The De La Hoya-Whitaker Fight

When I was a boy, I met an older girl named Alaqua. Alaqua's name was translated to English as etymologically relating to "Sweet Gum Tree." The sap of the sweet gums was known as "storax" and has been used to treat skin conditions, including those resulting from Staphylococcus aureus. Ironically, perhaps, I got Staph on my...um...staff, if you will. Well, I was a boy but not a boy unsullied by thoughts of older girls and their understanding of folk medicine. Anyways, I offered her a trade. I would give her my Game Boy Micro 20th Anniversary Edition (not a euphemism) and she would give me a special sweet gum tree storax, administered by hand, directly to my infection, which she told me I probably had, if I closed my eyes very tightly and pulled down my trousers to show her my pekpek. Then, the storax would treat my staff and my staph, if you understand. So, I did as I was asked and I am not overly shamed that I grew stiff with the breeze, thinking she was about to touch it and heal it-the thing-my special purpose, as my mother informed me it was. While I stood still against the tree, in the shade of the springtime of my life, as wooden as the oak that decorates the landscapes of the gods, I could not more tightly, nor more expectantly, nor more garishly have shuttened thine own eyes. As I did so, she took the Game Boy and ran away, and by the time I opened my eyes to understand my situation, the entire rest of my 4th grade class had gathered around, giggling. Anyway, I'm sure you know where this is going, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada, I think Whitaker didn't punch enough but I wish he had, etc.

 

Agree 100%.
The Hoya fight was the last great performance for Whitaker.
He was above his best fighting weight, clearly showing signs of decline his previous 3-4 fights, possibly from the cocaine problem he was suffering from at the time.
The Hoya loss was his last touch of greatness. He wouldn't have another great performance after it, or win another fight.

Both were awarded 2-point rounds- Oscar in the third due to a headbutt, and Pete in the ninth after a flash knockdown.

 

Okay, fine, I've never seen the fight, are you happy now? I just wanted to tell that story somewhere. I don't know anyone outside the forum who will listen to it.

 

Well...if it wasn't me...I support prosecution to the fullest extent of the law, for whichever poster it was. As long as it wasn't me.
