I'll be the 1st to admit that I don't know much about Monzon, so the opinions of my peers imo will help me gauge just how great he was. 15 rounds against the following at MW

    Fitz
    Papke
    Ketchal
    Fullmer
    Robinson
    Bassilio
    Lamotta
    Zale
    Graziano

I would favor him against all of these with SRR being the most difficult task, but a task at which he would deliver.

I’m no Monzon expert did he face a monstrous puncher like Fitz before?

Rodrigo Valdes was a monster puncher. And he could actually box.

    Hi Buddy.
He is amongst the best ever, top 3 with many, No 1 with less, I am not great with ranking the past greats, find the top 3/4 ok, but from 5 downwards I struggle, for the MWs Greb is top, with SRR next, then Monzon with Hagler a close 3rd, I reckon the Robinson of the LaMotta title fight might be a little fleet footed, and have too much boxing skill and movement for the rather methodical, but extremely effect Monzon of around 72, if the much smaller, and lighter, Griffith can go 29 with Monzon, then the bigger, Robinson would be able to achieve the same, but to play devil's advocate, I can't see Fullmer or Basilio outpointing Monzon, so it can be a conundrum, Robinson is a tentative pick over Carlos, who I grew up with and admire immensely.
    stay safe G & P, chat soon.
    Mike.

I'd only favor SRR over him out of these, narrowly. I have no doubt a few would provide spirited efforts, that's a toygh bunch.

I can’t say how each of these fights would play out. But I think it’s reasonable to assume that he’d win some and lose some. And I’m going to guess that he probably wins more of them than he losses. In either case he’d be a competitive player in all the eras that the men on that list fought in

    Let's break it down...

Fitz... boxed like a neanderthal but hit like a mule kicks. His 160 resume wasn't that great, mostly 4 rounders. Should be an easy win.
Papke... couldn't box for S. Easy win
Ketchal... couldn't box for S. Easy win.
Fullmer... Short with no reach. Basic boxer, no quicks. Easy win
Robinson... As great a fighter as there was but beatable at 160. A bit undersize, short reach, could be out-physicalled. A tall order but I'd favor Monzon with his strength and length.
Bassilio... If Napoles couldn't do it, Carmen surely couldn't.
Lamotta... Monzon so much longer, picks him apart. Busts him up.
Zale... Another midget with no reach. Never gets to the range often enough to employ vaunted body attack.
Graziano... Free swinging neanderthal gets KTFO.

Freddie Steele would be a good match, more competitive than any listed.

He beats them all with the possible exception of Fitzsimmons, outside of that only Robinsons and LaMotta give him problems but he beats them too.
