Boxing is Sport and still has merit involved, but the dangers are far higher than your average sports so the grab the money whilst you can aspect will never go away and understandably so
We might not like that part of it as fans but tbh if your gonna watch boxing, you kinda have to accept it

Nah I can still complain about it.

And I won't ever accept that behaviour from someone who already made over 100 million and has the star power to earn many more via advertisement in the ukraine...
The only reason I could understand was if he actually put like half of it into helping his countrymen who have fallen on hard times because of the war (losing the house etc) but until i hear that, i dislike it and have no respect for it.

Filling your bags with cheap money is just not respectable. I could respect someone coming up doing an embarrassing commercial or something when they haven't earned the big money yet, but usyk has everything and made more than he could ever have expected...

I will never get over cristiano ronaldo sitting at these boxing events next to the sheik Always smiling fakely and looking out of place and slightly uncomfortable. To me he looks like the sheiks puppet he oikes to present himself with. CR the trophy soccer player.

And CR is amazingly rich. He should be his own man. Yet money still gets him to be a puppet (i think).

I think that kind of worship of money is a weakness of the soul. After you have become rich, if you don't know what you actually want in life, what you want your life to be, what you want to do with your capabilities, then you end up chasing the money.

I agree with parts of what your saying for sure
Complaining is fine, we all do it but we all carry on watching including you I'd imagine
    That's a form of acceptance
    Not many ways around it

Uysk isn't coming off great since the second DD fight but he is probably the worst example to use.. Long term anyway
He has achieved do much and against stacked odds in order to get here
His messing around with belts is slightly annoying but looking at the bigger picture I see why he is doing it

I mean, do you really think his homeland advertising would pay anywhere near what he can get by doing what he is doing?

Earn as much as you can whilst young and enjoy the later stages of life
We'd all do it if possible

We can't get too moral about how fighters act when we all pay to watch them punch each other in the face

    Not looking good for Agit
Although a potential Fury fight would be just as massive and if he can beat him (I doubt it but more likely than Usyk) should cement a legacy. And if we see Fury beating Agit I can’t wait for Usyk / Fury 3

There is that argument to it, too.

What I am doing is arguing from the fan's perspective. Because yes, I watch the fights, but I can pay the ppv or watch it the next day on YouTube. And I am not taking the high ground too much I think by saying someone has probably earned enough not to be in dire need of fighting crossover matches, keeping others that deserve their own chance at success waiting.

And there is a difference between being amazed by someone and being ready to defend their claim to fame and starting to fall away from that or even going towards indifference or rooting against them, which is one of the quickest turnarounds for me personally, with usyk.

Obviously usyk won't care for what I think, but I do. And I like to talk about it on this forum where there are others that care about these things.

And in that sense I think he is the best example for a fallen hero. Maybe he can redeem himself with his last few fights, I would be happy if so.

Also i don't think his homeland advertising needs to bring him as much money. It would still be enough. As I said not everything is about money and if someone makes everything about money it is a poverty of the soul (or whatever term you prefer) and it will destroy them because what else can hold up to that once 100 million are not enough?

The guys are in a soulless sport as it is

Like I said from a fan pov I understand what your saying but for example if my boss gives me a ridiculous pay rise and I end up very comfortable, I wouldn't go to another job for peanuts

It's not brilliant at times for a fan but secure your families generational wealth and then the next generation etc if possible

The moneys there if one fighter don't take it another will

Having watched boxing since the 80s, nothing has really changed except the numbers are higher

    And nothing will ever change

Looks like Usyk will make the decision by the end of this week, and may decide to retire.

Why is he letting this lapin guy speak for him? He doesn’t come across well at all unless it’s a language thing.

Multiple sources are reporting the same, that Lapin says he MAY decide to retire.

He should. It already feels like Itauma, Hrgovic, Dubois, Wardely, and even Fury and Joshua are all filling a void he is leaving.

If he retires, Gassiev instantly becomes WBA champ, and Fury, Joshua and Dubois can all continue to work on their own legacies. As these men grow their own legacies, Usyk's will also grow.

    Just hang 'em up.

If Usyk had retired right after Dubois 2 it would be looked on a lot better than retiring now after avoiding back-to-back mandatories.

He won't be thanked for leaving the division in an obviously worse state than he entered it. When Usyk entered there were two champions. When he leaves, we are likely back to four holding belts:

    Dubois will be WBO champion
    Kabayel will be WBC champion
Gassiev will be WBA champion (oof)
Sanchez will be fighting for the IBF title

I don't think it's as bad as all, that but yeah, he stuck around one fight too many.

I do find it funny so many people continually complain about how much money Usyk has earned and demand he take peanuts to fight a guy who is essentially a nobody. You never find this in any other sport. No one is saying Patrick Mahomes should take a pay cut so the Chiefs can sign better players. No one is all over the top footballers in the world claiming they should take less money. But in the sport which is literally prizefighting, the top guy supposedly has earned enough money he should fight for much less than he's worth. It's just flat out absurd.

Also, as I've said many times before, we don't know the machinations behind the scenes here. Turki might want Usyk to vacate so Kabayel can get the belt and he can set up Fury to fight for that belt. Money and politics has always been the main driver in boxing, but Usyk is supposed to just cut through all that somehow because Mad Internet Person wants to see him fight Kabayel?

And to show how truly screwed up the whole system in boxing is, look at how Frank Warren will benefit from this whole deal. He should be offering Usyk a mint to fight his man Kabayel so they can snag the belts. But Frank won't. Why? Because of the horrid mandatory system we have. So all Frank has to do is send a lowball offer which Usyk obviously has to turn down and then the belt ends up with his guy at the end of the day anyway. And Usyk takes all the heat for the fight not happening. And if Usyk were to accept he has to fight Kabayel in Germany with Frank's ref, Frank's judges, etc.

I might be more willing to buy into this idea that Usyk needs to bend over backwards and screw himself to make these fights happen if the people complaining were willing to practice what they preach. But we know that's not true. Nobody is going in to work on the weekend for free or w/o overtime. If your boss tried that nonsense on you you'd quit, sue them, or at the very least laugh in their face and not show up. And boxing is, ya know, actually dangerous. You're always going to suffer some amount of brain damage and there's always a possibility you can be crippled or killed. But these guys are supposed to fight for peanuts so you can see a fight? Come off it already.
