That would indicate that he’d be in deep water against Vitali. Ike never beat a full sized heavyweight boxer mover with any talent. Vitali came out of retirement to totally outclass Peter and beat Chisora while forty and fighting with a bad shoulder. Ike was a similar fighter who was only a little bit better than them (gasp).
Both overrated by Ike is way overrated. He was a very promising and dangerous contender but Vitali beats him
Yeah, but Vitali never beat a talented heavyweight prospect. I reckon both of them would get soundly outboxed by Chris Byrd and knocked out by David Tua.
In '99, Ibeabuchi would have been the clear betting favorite, in my opinion. But backing him would still have been a bit of a punt, despite his Tua and Byrd wins. It's a 50/50 bout for mine. So, unless the odds swung heavily in Vitali's favor for some reason, I'd not be betting on the outcome. Too close to call (unless there's a very attractive price on Ike.)
Solis was, in fact, talented and a prospect. I could name others. Beating a champion is better than beating a prospect anyway. Tua struggled with guys like Jeff Wooden and Oquendo. Byrd was far from dominant when he got a belt. Your memory is selective.
Nowhere as talented as Ike. Besides, he blew out his knee from a pre-existing injury in the first round, not much of a fight. not a paper champion. Styles make fights. Those two were trying to keep their distance from Tua. Sam and Derek will come at him. Unless you seriously think either of them has a better chin or more power than David, the outcome is pretty obvious. I agree, it’s unfortunate that these two are far from the type of fighters that would trouble him.
Both are overrated in my opinion, but Ike more so. We never saw Ike against a good tall fighter. I think Vits beats him my decision in a fight Ibeabuchi shows his frustration and loses points for fouling. Just a guess on my part.
A guy like Ike, no. He fought And beat a guy much better than Peter or Chisora, his name is David tua.
Tua was a midget who went down on points to everyone. Peter from the second Toney fight would jab him to death. And fwiw I thought Tua deserved the decision over Ike.
He really wouldn’t. Peter’s sloppy jab and physicality would be more than enough. Just look at their fights with Maskaev. Peter was levels stronger and more durable than a guy like Izon.
