Usyk is vacating all the belts!

Yes the WBC sanctioned the Rico fight under the strict conditions that Usyk would face Kabayel the mandatory and interim Champion Agit Kabayel next, Now with Usyk apparently going back on his word,Kabayel is now the natural candidate to be elevated to full Champion ! I TBH I’m gutted if Usyk v Kabayel does not happen . Easy enough for anybody to search online what I have just posted .

 

That just means that the WBC would have stripped him anyway if he didn't fight, that's not an actual agreement for Usyk to fight Kabayel.

 

I don't know why he's choosing to fight on other than more monetary gain. I agree that the second Dubois fight would have been the perfect note to retire on. A one-sided spectacular knockout victory against a dangerous opponent in his prime? It doesn't get much better than that.

He doesn't want to fight the best anymore, so why bother fighting at all at this point? He's accomplished everything he could have ever hoped for. A unified champion in two different weight classes. Arguably the greatest cruiserweight in boxing history. The heavyweight champion of the world. Undefeated. A gold medalist in the amateurs. There's nothing left to achieve. I'm sure he loves boxing but all great things must come to an end.

Plus, even if his motivation is simply money, I question how much drawing power he would still have without a title attached to his name. He was never a big crossover mainstream star. He was always a boxer's boxer. One that hardcore fans and the purists really appreciated but didn't have a massive popularity among the general public. Is that amount of money, whatever it is, worth potentially getting hurt or leaving an unnecessary stain on his legacy? The Rico fight is already a tough note to end such a great career on, but it was also a warning sign that he wasn't the same guy anymore. So why push his luck even further? I don't know.

 

Ok then put it this way,why did the WBC agree to allow Usyk an exemption to fight Rico in a cross over fight rather than take on their own mandatory and interim boxing Champion Kabayel ? Usyk obviously agreed to the fight,no doubt it will all come out.We all knew Usyk would be stripped if he avoided Kabayel with a few also saying he would drop the WBC belt to avoid Kabayel,I honestly thought Usyk would fight Kabayel then retire tbh .

 

Usyk agreeing to fight Kabayel is speculation. If he intended on definitely fighting him next, he would have signed for it and not dropped the belts.

As to why the WBC granted the exemption? You'd have to ask them. My guess would be greed in trying to grab a nice fee out of the fight.

 

Like I posted we will hopefully find out soon .

 

I think its much less about the opponent, he's probably finally coming to terms with the fact that he can no longer operate the way he used to operate when he was younger and so there goes it. I doubt the oponent really factors much into this.

 

So, when Deontay Wilder knocks out Usyk next time out ...?

I guess he really is trying to squeeze as much money out of them as possible before retiring I guess.

 

Not quite sure about that. I think Usyk still has enough in the tank to beat Wilder, but they'd have to actually sell that fight first.
