    I loved it back then,in the 80 s.
I can remember seeing Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson fight for the first time,on a boxing video.
It was fascinating, exciting and I was totally obsessed from then on with finding the old time fighters on tape.
It wasn't easy back then, even old pictures turning up would make someone's week.
We'll never get those days back.

    Network TV,
    Wide World of Sports
    Friday Night Fights
    ESPN
    TSN
    PPV
    Tuesday Night Fights

    and finally Satellite TV

there used to be lots of Boxing on TV and some very good fighters coming up and hopeful contenders.

All the top magazines. And usually after a fight on tv they’d announce upcoming events. And talking to other fans.

Hello, dmt. I am forever grateful to my late, great grandfather and his collection of boxing films. I grew up watching them, projected on his large white screen, my larger than life heroes of my youth (my grandfather included).

such a beautiful post. It must have been a lot of fun for you to grow up on these films and watch them with your grandpa.

I miss your grandfather posting here and i am glad you decided to stick around on this forum.

My uncle used to run The Count of Monte Fisto Newsletter, which was through snail mail, but converted later to AOL and now it's just a Trump newsletter that instructs us all on how to be better followers or get-out-of-the-wayers.

You young whippersnappers with your fancy YouTubes and DailyMotions don’t appreciate what you have because of your easy-at-your-fingertips modern technologies.

Back in my day, we had to walk miles uphill, barefoot, through the snow just to so much as glimpse or read a nugget about a big fight, and when we turned around and walked the same route home … it was uphill going back and snowing even harder.

And we liked it that way!

In Philly Russell Peltz had a boxing show on the radio he did once a week. He was always educating his listeners about the old time fighttes but also what was currently going on.
The Daily News had better boxing coverage than most papers. Other than that it was Ring Magazine or KO Magazine.
