No, he's supposed to fight his top contenders or retire.

And I guess you never called a fighter a duck in your life?

We are in the post-Usyk era now. He had to retire from competitive bouts at some point. It has already gone on too long in my opinion.

Yes, I think that is the takeaway from this. It is a little annoying, that usyk will continue to be seen the top dog by most for a while. Not dissimilar to magnus carlsen in the chess world (who maybe even still is the strongest player, though not as dominant now).

But the correct way of seeing this is that the usyk era is over. The rest is a cooldown lap and entertainment.

It's just regrettable that he will now probably have more eyes on him than he did when he was the greatest cruiser/heavy of this century.

What's about to come is entertainment business

No matter when any great fighter retires there will always be some young buck looking to fight them. Nobody would have claimed before Usyk beat them that Fury, AJ, or Dubois posed lesser threats than Kebabayel, or Itauma for that matter.

If this is a duck it is the most forgivable kind of duck.

Kabayel is not on Usyk’s level; he’s not even in the same building. Usyk is playing heavyweight chess, Kabayel is still looking for the board. At 39, Usyk would school him like a substitute teacher with a mean jab.

Kabayel is crowned as a champion by email, but his chin already filed a complaint against Smakici. Getting dropped by a basement-ranked heavyweight is not “adversity,” it’s a warning label. Usyk wouldn’t need a war plan; he’d just open the toolbox and take Kabayel apart.

Usyk at 39 is still a master surgeon, and Kabayel is a guy who needed emergency repairs against Smakici. A top-level fighter doesn’t get embarrassed like that by a ranking-page ghost. Usyk would turn him into a highlight reel for footwork tutorials.

If Smakici had him buffering in round 2, Usyk would have him factory-reset by round 6.

Now? Yes. It will give a pleasing denoument to his career beating the only other 'name' of his generation, which is what I meant by asterisk. I reckon Usyk wants to properly clean house of 'his generation' and beat the only American with a 'marquee' name over the last decade or so.

Perhaps my post was unclear, I was not comparing Wilder to Tyson, that would be an abject lesson in futility, I was making the point that Wilders name has the same resonance as Tyson's once did in an 'our generation' context. If you hear the name Wilder you think Bomb Squad and chilling power.

I did not know he was not popular or known in America but certainly amongst 'casuals' and cognoscenti alike on our shores, Wilder was very well known by many, and oft cited in H2H terms before his capitualtions to Fury and subsequent fall from grace.

I'd watch the two old war horses get it on over watching Usyk and Kaba because I suspect if Usyk can get 80% of what he had he smashed Kaba up easily, but if he is as bad as he looked last time he might get found out, and that would be sad to see such a champion go out that way.

Hey what a nice chat, thanks for your reply, peace and love always, Px

Yes of course Usyk is ducking Kabayel

Vitali is a far better opponent than current Wilder though. So that's not a good argument. And I don't think anyone here views him as a top 10 heavyweight.

Usyk also never should have wasted time on the Rico fight

Again, Lennox didn't want to fight Vitali. He had to. Plus, Lennox wasn't almost 40 years old and the smaller guy.

I don't think Usyk should have wasted his time with Rico either, but you know exactly why he did it. The guy who actually pays the money in boxing wanted the fight, this guy had made sure Usyk got his Undisputed shot versus Fury by basically forcing Fury to fight Usyk, and so Usyk had to go along to get along. Life ain't fair. Life ain't all getting exactly what you want all of the time.

    Very good post.
It's also worth noting that Lewis's camp rejected a second offer of a two fight deal package worth 11-12 millions (first an interim fight + a title fight against Bowe in the fall).
This offer was judged "very good" by Maloney, but he refused it, citing his "commitment" to the WBC "which stood behind them" (aka politics like you said).

Really? He was heavily criticized by many for rematching Dubois after being crucified re. the controversy of the first fight and after Dubois crashed his post-fight interview demanding his rematch and revenge for being ''robbed.''

He doesn't rematch Dubois and put an end to the controversy of the first fight and he gets crucified by them for ducking the rematch and it would forever be a huge stain on his legacy

He was and is heavily criticized by many for only fighting 5 opponents at HW, 6 now

Heavily criticized by many for facing so many Brits *but fight Moses doe*

Heavily criticized by many for rematching AJ and Belly despite being contractually bound to those rematches which were not put in place to benefit him (quite the opposite) but were to right the wrong of him throwing a big spanner in the works of the plans of their promoters to make the ''biggest fight in boxing history.''

The powers that be try to screw him over and he gets criticized for it when he was the one giving away huge physical advantages in those fights and had beaten AJ in his backyard on a deck heavily stacked against him

And FTR, I think the criticism he's received for holding the division up for a while and not relinquishing the belts sooner which is ONE fight sooner is fair and valid but it doesn't undo anything he's achieved prior to that and, as said, his borderline saintly conduct in and out of the ring and the utterly fearless and noble approach he took prior to that has earned him so many grace points he gets afforded a free pass for certain things others who did not conduct themselves in and out of the ring or take the approach he did which you guys can't seem to get your heads around.

''But imagine if Clenelo, Belly or Floyd did that doe''

    Because it's not the same

So Usyk isn't a great champ? He was injured, his country has been invaded and is still at war, and he's in his late 30s and at the end stage of his career and and champions in their late 30s are generally not as active as they were in the 20s and mid 30s, let alone ones whose countries are at war. It has been explained why he felt he needed that time out including by him and his team

And Usyk hasn't lost a fight in just under 17 years and it should really be 18 despite fighting at the elite level for almost all of that time, fighting on the road for the vast majority of that time, in his opponent's backyards often as a pro, facing all manner of different styles and running a gauntlet of savage punchers and legit bangers, and often as a pro giving away huge advantages and at HW many simultaneously. Hell, he hasn't even been dropped by a head shot in all that time

J-Park has suffered losses to AJ, Whyte, Big Joe Joyce, Fabio, and should or arguably should have losses to Chisora, Fat Andy, Hughie, Big Bang and over half of his 40 fights have been against bums or low or much lower level calibre fighters

It might not but J-Park has lost or should have lost to numerous Usyk victims and to fighters Usyk would never lose to, who Usyk would toy with even or in most instances. J-Park's level has been established for a long time and so has Usyk's and it's a completely different tier.

No one genuinely believes J-Park or Fabio could ever beat Usyk and even if they think Kabayel could they would be conveniently ignoring the fact that Usyk is almost 40 y/o, way past his best, and Kabayel is in his prime and despite that and Kabayel being much bigger than him too Kabayel was still trying to stack the deck even more in his favour by getting Usyk to fight him in his country when he's in no position to call the shots and dictate terms.

We're not oversensitive to ''mild criticism'' or any fair and valid criticism. In fact, I said he deserves criticism for not relinquishing the belts or the WBC sooner and for holding the division up for a while but the criticism he has been subjected to all across social media has been utterly insane and many are trying to tear apart his entire legacy and undo everything he has achieved in an amazing career amateur and pro and we're not going to allow that to happen and for these cretins to rewrite history and true Usyk fans would be angry and vocal about that

And we are also not going to allow anyone to try and memory hole the fact that all throughout his prime ad up until very recently when 38 y/o and long past his best, his conduct was impeccable and he forged a career facing the best and taking tough challenges B2B (sans very late notice sub Chazz Witherspoon on his HW debut) and in their backyards on a deck stacked against him and whilst being the much or way smaller man at HW and running a gauntlet of KO artists and legit bangers at both weights beating them all via the application of pure skill with zero use of dirty illegal tactics

And he literally jumped at the chance to fight on a deck stacked or heavily stacked against him for the vast majority of his career even though he was giving away huge physical advantages at HW and he did so routinely when so many others, including many of his fellow greats and the favs and current favs of his critics and those trying to rip his legacy to shreds, refused to do the same or would not have done so near as often or freely as he did

AJ ranked #1 by The Ring
    AJ #2 rematch
Dubois mandatory and WBA reg champ
    Belly #1
    Belly #1
    Dubois #2

    Unranked Rico

So with the exception of mandatory Dubois in the first fight and the unranked Rico in a crossover/gimmick money fight Usyk has fought nothing but the 1 and 2 ranked guys and only Rico can be considered a soft touch and they were all much or way bigger than him, younger or much younger, and he fought them all in their backyards or on the road and would've fought them all in their backyards had the Saudis not wanted to stage those fights in Saudi

And he was already 4 months away from turning 35 heading into his HW title shot and is literally the 4th oldest HW world champion of all time, the 3rd oldest unified one, and the oldest undisputed HW champion of all time so he did all that when already past his prime or fort much of it

Maybe he should've fleshed his reign out with a bunch of defences against Pianeta, Leapai, Sosnowski, Charr, Molina, Duhaupas, Gerald Washington calibre opponents

Or some of the zero threat bums other HW greats defended their titles against in their PRIMES?

 No it doesn't and you don't know that. You're being ridiculous and you're still looking for any reason you can to try and discredit him and tear him down because you're in your feelings.

He's relinquished all the belts, turns 40 in January and is way past his prime, looked every day of his 39 years in his previous fight, and is in the planning his exit strategy stage of his career and is being pulled in all different directions by those close to him re. which route to take, and his conduct in and out of the ring up until very recently and all throughout his prime and even years past it, doing everything the right, honourable and hard way, has been impeccable so why are people still complaining?

It's not the way I personally want to see him bow out and yes he does deserves some criticism for it but it's a tiny part of an amazing career and he's old, way past his prime and if anyone deserves to pick and choose their fights and chase the money for the greatest reward/lowest risk at 39-40 y/o it's him and now that he's relinquished all the belts there isn't a problem and we know he's not doing so out of greed for personal wealth like certain other greats

Many are just desperate to see him lose and they're in the tantrum stage now that window is fast closing

Okay but how was Usyk forced to fight Rico? I don't think they could strip him of his belts for refusing to fight a guy with one pro fight a decade ago.

So what exactly could they do if Usyk refused? Be mad I guess.

Thanks. Yes, that's exactly what they expect him to keep doing. Keep playing Russian roulette facing all these dangerous younger or much younger giants and huge or big punchers in their backyards on a deck stacked or heavily stacked against him even into his 40s when way past his best after forging a career facing the best and pretty much exclusively tough touches B2B in their backyards on a deck stacked against him or on the road and running a gauntlet of savage punchers and legit bangers, all of whom at HW much or way bigger than him, and constantly being the one who is at a disadvantage or many disadvantages

But when he inevitably blows his brains out (figuratively speaking) they'll act like he is still in his prime and that he wasn't routinely doing things no other current greats and champions in the sport are doing or expected to and few from previous did or would or are expected to routinely
