Since Usyk gave up the belts without retiring, does the lineage start anew?

Yup, but the USA is only the USA. Only one part of the boxing world. Thought of themselves as the most important one, but next decade showed it was just a foolish pride. If Wlad was American he would be the best thing since slice bread.

 

They still were then. But Wlad was a unique draw in Germany. And that's when Germany was a hotbed for boxing, like the UK was more recently.

Everything this century is cyclical. Nobody in 2010s thought all the big fights would be happening in the desert in the Middle East in the 2020s.

Who knows where the go-to place will be in the 2030s.

 

It happened with Foreman in the 90s. He fought poor competition too long and lost recognition with the general public.

Tyson was also widely viewed as champ by the public prior to beating Spinks

 

Foreman lost the universal recognition, but was still considered the linear (how they call it then) champion.

Tyson wasn't universally recognized until he beat Spinks. Jinx was still the lineal champion.

 

The public at large didn't view him as champ. Holyfield was champ in the view of the boxing public once he beat Tyson

 

"Linear" might be a thing in boxing, but if one gives up all the belts, they simply aren't a champion anymore. There's no such thing as "The Man of the Division" title. There's no "Linear Champ" belt, even if anyone wants to try and use The Ring Belt.

If you give up all your titles, you aren't a champion anymore. Your time is done by your own actions.

The lineage will restart when the criteria is met, regardless of whether Usyk is still hanging around picking and choosing. Just my opinion.

 

I don’t usually think so but in this case it is a load of bollocks. What happens if someone comes along and completely wipes up the division and takes all the alphabets. Since Lewis the Lineage has become a joke. I still think Usyk’s Lineage claim is there without the alphabet belts but not as strong as past champions and only if he intends to continue fighting at top level where the belts don’t mean **** anyway but not if he’s going to ****s ass about.

 

It's better but it's still a load of bollocks. There is no line, lines are unbroken. Lineal is a fantasy, Universally Recognised is the reality.

We don't have to do hypotethicals. It already happened with Mike Tyson. The lineage was just fine after Lewis. It was re-established by one of the greatest HW champions in history.

 

Yeah, he losth the recognition, but not the lineal claim.

 

He didn't give up The Ring belt, so not all titles. Usyk is still the champ. Once the new consensus champion emerges, we may have a Spinks vs Tyson debate. But until then, there's no debate.

 

Until Usyk either retires or gets beat the Lineal Title stays with him,as long as he continues to fight he is the Lineal Heavyweight Title holder .
