He couldnt even come close in a match with Dela Hoya in his 4th years as pro

Anyone that thinks this is a mismatch simply doesn't know Pryor .. Pryor was an awesome fighter however when I see how Chavez, at his absolute best, took bombs from a murderous punching Rosario and kept him pinned to the ropes and beat him down it just becomes very hard to call against him .. I love Aaron but it's one thing to outlast an aging Arguello in his fourth weight class and another to live life or death in the trenches with a physically prime ,pre-drug addict , mean as hell Chavez ... its a super fight to me every bit as great as say Frazier Holyfield or Frazier Marciano ... I favor Chavez

This is Pryor's weight and he is much stronger here, but JCC is on a different level skill wise and will get in and win this on the inside. Close UD Chavez. No stoppage here after 15, it will go to the cards

 

Pryor was a natural 135 pounder and only went to 140 because he got the title shot denied him at 135. Chavez was actually the bigger , stronger guy at 140 .. Aaron was just one of those terrific fighters, unorthodox but with very good speed and terrific two handed power not to mention insane stamina and recooperative powers .. all that said I can't ever recall him fighting backing up and the pressure Chavez would put on him to fight inside and the punishment he would take to the body would be to his disadvantage ... a stoppage over 15 is not out of the question.

 

Not exactly a scalable comparison ... he was 33 for the first fight .. it's a more lopsided analogy than when Oscar was diced to pieces by Paq.

 

You know when I get a chance I’m going to take a look at the lightweight division of that time. I swear i wish I still had every boxing magazine I collected over the years. All gone now. Anyway back to my point. So he was denied a shot at 135? Ducked by t Benitez, Leonard and Hearns. This is getting very silly. I will take a peak at his career and timeline and all ranking around that time IF I can gather the information to see if he was so good/dangerous that he was ducked by an entire lightweight division and some boxers who aren’t just hall of famers but legends.

 

Don't know where Benitez stood here at the time. Memory block but I don't feel Leonard or Hearns ducked Pryor. They both beat him IMO

 

You're right Robert. Pryor's manager Buddy LaRosa made fights with Leonard and Duran. But Pryor was in a shity contract situation as it was a 50-50 split with LaRosa in ALL Pryor fights. Pryor held out because he wanted more money. He even hired a lawyer and it got messy.
By that time the fights were long gone. Eventually the 2 renegotiated and Pryor earned more money split with LaRosa for the Arguello fights.

 

I dont remember Pryor ever fighting at Super Featherweight. I'm not so sure JCC had the bigger frame. I think Pryor was known to Rehydrate up to 148 by fight time ...

 

How was Pryor's record at welter ? Remember him fighting there ?
