Criticism of Itauma Is Fascinating

For somebody as exciting as Itauma is,it’s a head scratcher as to why they are bringing him along so slowly. They are struggling to get him rounds in so just have him fighting more often like they normally do with these type of fighters. Hrgovic is meant to be a test for him and expected to give him rounds which is a decent step up but for me Itauma is simply not as busy as he should be,so the question has to be is there a reason for this !

On the contrary, the majority here seem to adulate/adore him and expect him to demolish Hrgovic. The "haters" (including Hrgovic himself, lol) are probably just fed up with the hype until he's defeated someone in the top 10.

I also think he will beat Hrgovic, but the (extremely arrogant) promotional hype is very aggravating.

 

The hype is not his fault, but is a result of his impressive start. I just hope the media crap doesn't burn the kid out before he has a chance to do something.

 

It is not hate for Itauma, it is hate for the unreal talk surrounding a guy who has fought twice a year against nobody.

Hrgovic is a good start. I personally give him a LOT of credit for that.

 

You know what's weird ? Nobody gets upset when people overrate a 30 something year old who fights twice a year against nobodies. But a 21-year-old ? Suddenly everyone's terrified of optimism.

The skepticism is correct. It's not hate, is all.

 

The Tyson comparison can be whack and Itauma can still be exceptional, they're not mutually exclusive. Bad comparisons aren't going to lower Itauma's ceiling.

Besides, the Tyson comparisons mostly died off when he missed Tyson's record as youngest HW title holder. And it's not as if Tyson fought killers in his first 2 years. Berbick was in fact his first top 10 ranked opponent, you can look it up. The difference was just activity, not opposition.

Itauma had 7 fights in his first year as a pro, which is hardly inactivity by modern standards. It's only now that he's closer to the world level that his activity has dropped. Compare that to Wardley, who turned pro at 22 and fought twice a year for almost a decade. If anybody right now can take his time, it's the one who could still be fighting at the top level 15 years from now.

 

The fact is that they are comparing him to Tyson. Period. Not hard to understand at all.

Activity is important.

You are trying very hard to turn skepticism into hate.

Yeah I agree, what he's shown is good but it's over absolute nobodies. People on here think highly of Hrgovic but to me, even he is like, merely okay. Id need to see a lot more from Itauma before I'm ready to say he's a future atg. Id say the 'hate', or more like skepticism for Moses is more apparent than it was for Dubois back in the late 10s. Would you say it's worse or better than Joshua's?

 

But they weren't Ring rated. This way McKean, Balogun, Whyte and Franklin were Top 10s too.

 

That's kinda the point, though - it's why there's a question mark if he's struggling with stamina against someone that limited... Being tired 5 rounds in with most anyone suggests potential stamina issues - when there's still levels to go through? It has to be a concern on some level.

Setting a high pace is great if you can keep it up - if you can't, it could be called foolish instead, perhaps?
