Agreed - Hrgovic is a solid gatekeeper - he's not getting knocked out easily, and he's technically decent, but stamina issues and medium power keep him from beating top guys.

If Itauma beats him, especially if it's convincing, he's real... But it doesn't guarantee he's iron or that his stamina isn't still potentially an issue sometimes - it just proves he'd get past the vast majority.

You keep repeating it like it's supposed to settle something. It doesn't.
This is the only place you'll see a heavy who's still in his 3rd year as a pro, about to have his 15th fight at 21 years old, being criticized for inactivity. It's bizarre.

Maybe you're just skeptical, and that's fair. Skepticism is part of boxing. But there are definitely posters on here who seem far more invested in disproving the hype train than evaluating Itauma himself. He's been criticised for breathing with his mouth open vs Franklin despite his explosiveness, power, speed and work-rate staying consistent. You don't have to look very hard to find them.
Should have specified with ring ranked. Alphabet body rankings are meaningless, as they don't rank fighters who haven't fought under them.

    Up to a point...

Then again, is the impressive start itself somewhat manufactured by sticking with safe opponents who are either totally shot or were never any good?
Up to a point, you'd have to say yes, regardless of how good he's looked doing it.

He's clearly not a media man... The bigger risk is if he gets derailed and how/whether he comes back if that happens.

Hrgovic has his limitations, but it's a huge step up - let's see.

He's legit to me when he passes the chin check and heart check and/or conclusively beats the top fighters of the division. Simple as.

This is the forum that has had people unironically saying Gamboa was a lock as the future p4p 1 all time, Loma would beat SRR at WW and that Canelo would beat all past 160 and 168lbers. And there have been plenty of less hyperbolic but still annoying hype jobs on here. I'm not surprised overly hyping relatively unproven prospects on here is now pretty much reviled and disregarded.

There are always people who are skeptical about prospects. In my opinion Itauma has shown great skill so far, and I think he'll be among the top heavyweights for years. But step by step, in August he faces the toughest opponent of his career, Hrgovic, and I think Itauma will win convincingly and then fight for the world title, against Sanchez or Gassiev. Let's see what happens, August is coming.

i think you're also mistaking skepticism as criticism. There's some anti Itauma stuff sure, but at least half of what you probably consider hate are posts where questions are asked about how he'll do in the later rounds or how he'll respond to being gut checked or whether he can take a punch or not. We don't know any of this about Itauma. He's clearly the best HW prospect and he looks like a destroyer knocking out journeyman and fringe contenders/washed up contenders, but we still don't know how he'll respond when the opponents stop bowling over with little to no resistance and ask some questions of his chin and heart.

itauma is pretty similar to Gerry Cooney. A couple wins over shot guys with names have built the hype. Big power, zero defense.

Some guys here confidently say Itauma has a crappy gas tank because he was breathing with his mouth open vs Franklin, despite still showcasing his usual explosiveness both when punching and defending without a major decrease in work-rate. That's clearly mere denial of reality, rather than skepticism. Unless we see Itauma actually struggling to put shots together, losing his power late in the fight, having difficulty keeping his arms up and plodding like his legs have trouble supporting him, I'll hear it. So far it feels like stetch after stretch, not by a small minority either.

And let's be real, you'd have to be pretty miserable to want to see a clearly super talented kid, who's 10 younger than everyone and fighting at or near their level, just because you can't stand the talk surrounding him.

It'd be one thing if he was an established guy who's had struggles with mediocre opposition in the prime of his life like Dubois and Wardley. But he's had every round of his career go his way, flawlessly beat his opposition (mid as they are, but half the top 15 hasn't done better anyway) and more easily than the rest of their opponents did. All of that while just being old enough to drink. All that just to be called a hype job who's done nothing that any fighter worth a **** couldn't do in a similar manner. Those are real words on this forum btw. I can't get behind that mate.

Tbf mate, I think your last paragraph is only half right. Just at HW alone in very recent times, several posters have overhyped the likes of Joyce, Zhang, Bakole and Wardley. Obviously they had people that pushed those narratives back though. I haven't seen denial and pushback the way I've seen with Itauma though. Almost as if some guys here need him to fail so that their weekend isn't shot.

Obviously I won't directly quote things posters here have said, but if you search for a while you'll see some wild stuff. I'll just say there are people here who don't think he is remarkable in the slightest. And even if he doesn't become the best HW in the world in the next few years, or even the next era, I know your eyes are good enough to know that Itauma is anything but unremarkable.

I don't have any criticisms of Itauma just unanswered questions

What I have seen so far has been good, if anything he could be more active

I like the Hrgovic fight, nice step up. I think he stops Hrgovic

The reason is change. People don’t like change, especially not yanks & soviets that can’t accept that Great British rule over the heavyweight division will be resumed after a very brief hiatus since may 2024

“Highest potential ceiling out of any heavyweight this century” ???:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Wow. This is the type of **** right here that many on here are talking about when we say this goon itauma is being hyped beyond belief.

“Highest ceiling of ANY heavyweight this century” No. Sorry. And not even close.

Most of the criticism isn't actually criticism it's "we have no proof he lives up to the hype". And we don't.

Itauma is a lock to be top 10 forever because HW only has 5 20 somethings in the top 35 and him and the Bridgerweight dude are the only ones with a 0. A Dominick Guinn style fall here is fairly unlikely. Just gaming out the next few years it's hard to see him falling off the map totally.

But Itauma being the chosen one or even a champion is a different story. The only thing elevating him above Anderson and Torrez is he hasn't had a loseable fight yet. If he loses to Hrgovic which he probably will he will be in the same boat.
