Tyson Fury is about to do something great!

Absolutely. I find the lack of sympathy disturbing towards fighters on this board. Towards both AJ and Fury in fact. People are quick to poo-poo his depression and it being the reason the Klitschko rematch didn't happen. I'm not particularly a fan of either personally, although they've given me some of the most exciting nights as a boxing fan, in victory and in defeat. But I wish people could just put boxing aside for a minute to recognise they are human beings, same as us. And everyone reacts in different ways to trauma. I honestly thought AJ might never step foot in the ring again after what happened, even though he was pretty much fine physically. We all know he is pretty fragile mentally, so something like that could have destroyed him. I don't know how many people on here saw the video that showed the aftermath, but to say it was gruesome was an understatement... I just hope AJ never got to see what we saw, and never will. So the fact that he's getting in the ring again, whether it's a good opponent or not, fair play to him.

 

I think Fury causes him too much problems and it hasn't helped that AJ stopped being serious about boxing several years ago. A few years ago it may have been closer, but I think that time has long passed.

 

I think that's fair, and I know I'm coming off as a bit harsh. It's just that we're not seeing these excuses from AJ himself, it's all coming from fans and observers. For that reason, it comes off as excuse making and appears to be more condescending and coddling as opposed to understanding.

AJ isn't a child. He isn't the first person to see friends die. If he wasn't ready to continue, then he wouldn't be. Only he knows how he feels at the end of the day.

If after his tune up he retired because of the accident then fair play to him. But let's not be insulting by locking the excuses in advance when he seems keen to crack on.
