What is the true limit of size vs skill? I feel as though people overlook the success the smaller fighters had against HWs over the years. Beterbiev gave Usyk a tougher match than Joe Joyce did a year later. Beat Michael Hunter in the amateurs who stopped a prime Bakole. John Ruiz was a fairly effective HW despite his boring style and yet he decisively lost to Toney and Ruiz. So how far can this go? Can somebody like GGG beat a 8 inches taller, 90+ lbs heavier power-puncher that has the skills of a caveman? Would he have an easier time with someone like Chris Byrd?
Maybe top level 175 but I dont think he beats beterbiev or bivol Chris Byrd would be a nightmare for GGG as bad as mahkmudov is he would be too big
Man I dunno. Golovkin is the kind of fighter that has had success through his physicality. He achieves success through hurting guys. When the problem becomes outsized, what's he gonna do? Frankly I prefer the nimble defensive fighters to translate better to the higher weights.
Byrd would be worse for him. At least with a clumsy caveman type a much better boxer can use speed, footwork and defence to outbox him. Byrd had fast hands and a good workrate ... and was much bigger. Byrd could take a pounding too. Golovkin is devastating, but only at his weights.
