Archie Moore has a better top 12 HW wins in their era than Marciano does.

Savold and Beshore were washed up.Reynolds and Buonvino were just average fighters.Mathews was a hype job .Cockell didn't belong in the ring with Marciano,I don't care where he was ranked! Lastarza was a protected fighter who hadnt really earned a title shot,imo.

Matthews was a legit fighter. Not an all time HW but he was a legit fighter and has a better HW record than a lot of contenders for the belt. LaStarza as well although I do agree somewhat protected he was a talent and was always thought of as that at the time.

as far as the opps point Moore had a lot of good scalps but none were as good as Moore himself Walcott or Charles. Even prime Rex Layne would prob rank close to first on his HW list.

Marciano fought 12 elite heavyweights baring rematches ? Louis was no longer elite unless you mean name recognition .. I have Charles, Walcott, Moore .. Lee Savold was done. Rex Layne was a plodding nobody. I say he beat Walcott, Charles and Moore. Those were his wins .

 

Matthews was a hype job, the work of genius Jack Hurley, who admitted as much. Archie Moore thought as much and didn't hold his tongue.

You can literally do this thing you do with any fighter ever. Literally any fighter. There is no perfect list of fighters a man beat barring Ali. Even then criticisms can be made like this. All fighters especially low level contenders have similar or even less good wins. Most people contending for a title only had one or two good wins before contending.

 

The point is,the only point , neither of them ever had a defining fight.
Mathews was a lhvy,craftily manouvered by Hurley.Lastarza avoided every body and even said in a Ring interview, it was his managers strategy to parlay a close earlier fight with Rocky into a title shot all the while avoiding dangerous men.
