Of all the boxers that have signed with Zuffa so far, I think Shakur is going to give them the biggest headache. Let me preface this by saying Shakur is one of the best boxers in the sport, probably top 3 P4P at the moment, but there's a reason Arum moved sideways away from him, and Hearn didn't move heaven and Earth to try and keep him. He's about as marketable as condom inside a Big Mac. He "retired" to get out of his Top Rank deal, called Sugar Ray Robinson a bum, and provides more action on Twitter than he does in the ring. It'll come to a head quickly with Dana when Shakur refuses to wear a Zuffa tracksuit on his wedding day, or get a Monster tattoo on his back for a fight with Ryan Garcia.
Putting money above his career I guess. Who's he even gonna fight? Rayo over and over and over again?
Well.. let’s see if Zuffa helps Shakur’s career progress. Or if Shakur will eventually want out just like with Top Rank.
I'll grant you one thing, finding a used condom in your burger would still be more exciting than watching Shakur fight.
Shakur vs Benn? lol. We’d have to invent challenges for Shakur to beat to make that interesting. Can he keep the total number of punches landed by Benn to under 10? Can he get his connect rate over 75%? I’m not trying to be ridiculous, but this would be such a hilarious mismatch.
Let me try to put a good spin on it — if you want to show the world you’re serious about your boxing league, you could do a lot worse than signing one of the biggest (if not the biggest) talents in the sport. they’re going to have a real hard time making a cent off him. but if they’re signing him for prestige? Ok, fair play, he’s arguably (likely) the best in the world in any weight class he can reasonably fight in. Now please sign Haney for at least one fight and make that one happen. That one needs to happen for boxing history and scholarship.
