Is Ray Leonard top 10 p4p in the last 100 years?

When you look at the quality of his opponents in his top 6 wins, it's hard to argue that he's anything less than a top 10 pound-for-bound boxer of all time. Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Benítez, Kalule. I'm not sure there's another fighter in boxing history who has better top tier wins. What hurts him is his short longevity, partially brought about by multiple retirements. His resume has an incredible peak but he's somewhat lacking in terms of depth. But that peak is so incredibly high that it still puts him in very rare company. And skill and ability wise, you could argue that he was the best fighter ever.

Bob Foster with his 14 defenses could definitely keep him out

Even Mike Spinks, with his one loss to Leonard's three losses and outstanding reign at 175

 

It's more or less a question of "Is Ray Sugar Leonard Top 10 P4P since ring magazine comes out?" (1924)
As I think I have found at least one boxer who is P4P above Sugar Ray Leonard - I don't think Sugar Ray Leonard has been P4P top 10 in the last hundred years.
Michael Jynx Spinks is above him, I would also mention Marciano.

On this basis, my top 10 would be:

2. Armstrong
3. Charles
4. Duran
5. Louis
6. Ali

10. SRL

so, yes, he just makes it.

If I factored in all of Mickey Walker's career, pre and post 1926, then he'd enter this list at #8 and SRL would slip to #11.

 

Yeah, I think he makes it too, Greg. If we’re taking out Greb, Langford,
Fitzsimmons, Joe Gans and prime Benny Leonard who are all top 10 or top 15 at worst, then that allows Leonard the space to make the top 10. Otherwise he’s around 15 all-time.

 

good close matches in which leonard proved to be just a bit stronger, more resourceful, and a bit tougher. except for the hagler fight in which I had to give it to Hagler. Since that was the case, I had Hagler move up over Leonard

Yes, I would have liked to see him continue his career. wins over Starling would have meant nothiing as Starling didnt start out as a serious contender. But wins over Tyrone Trice, Simon Brown, maybe some more names, Pryor, would satisfy the public

Compared to longer, more successful careers, 30+ bouts is far too short
