One of few threads where the "he wins some, he loses some" response is the most accurate. Young never beats Golota or Moorer imo but if he's really trying he could make decent fools of the other three. But then considering he could be a bit wishy washy with his output, he might lose to all of those three as well.
Let me ask you this: What's 'Tua' spelt backwards? That's right. Aut. You only need add the letter 'n' and you have 'Aunt.' What if Tua's aunt had balls...she'd be Jimmy Young. Coincidence? I rather think not. Jimmy Young would take the 'n' in his surname, put it into Tua's surname backwards, and become his en-balled aunt Uncle. His Uncle Jimmy Youg. 'Youg' because the 'n' would then have been subtracted from his own surname. But he'd still be the winner. And you cannot take that away from him.
The only one I'm sure would beat Young is Moorer. Young has no knockout power; Moorer would outscore him.
I think Jimmy Young would frustrate a lot of those guys. David Tua and Michael Moorer are the ones in the most skeptical about. Moorer was skilled and quick south paw and might be able to keep the score cards close. And even though Tua had his limitations something tells me he’d be all over Young and Jimmy wouldn’t have the power to earn his respect.. Ruddock was too one dimensional and I think Young avoids that smash left. Mercer is a no brainer. Golata is 50/50
All these guys beat Young. Not even particularly close. The 90's were a hellfire of competition among true specimens. Young was an artifact of weaker times.
Specimens shouldn't draw with Marion Wilson and barely scrape past Jeff Wooden. OT: Young beats Tua and Mercer pretty easily. Mercer and Golota win clear UDs. Not sure on Ruddock, I think he is too sloppy to land a KO punch but at the same time he was pretty good at mauling people up close with his weird uppercuts. Maybe a robbery SD for Ruddock based on damage and aggression.
Yeah, well, Randy Neuman wouldn't have gotten a ranking in the 90's but he beat Young. Even getting beaten by a 76 Ali is disgraceful. A clean sweep for the 90's fighters. And I'll throw in Morrison, Schulz, maybe even Savarese.
Yeah, in his 10th professional match and 3rd year of pro boxing. One fight later he also got KO'd by Shavers, who he outboxed and got robbed against 2 years later. Mercer drew with Wilson 2 bouts before he fought Lewis, and Tua was right in the middle of his career when Wooden gave him hell. Not in that manner, Young outboxed Ali in every single way possible, he just kept cheating and losing points. Nope. Schulz and Savarese couldn't even convincingly beat a 45+ years old Foreman. Morrison is more likely to get KO'd by Young then beat him tbh.
Young goes 0-5. Flame away. Without a doubt the single most overrated human being discussed on this forum, all on the strength of a night in Maryland against Ali at his unmotivated worst and a fluke against Foreman.
