He did get up. Not only that, but he actually continued to fight

The stoppage was due to the worst officiating in boxing history. Which I will elaborate upon in my future post addressing all the Liston downplay I see on this site. It will not be short lol.

The vote was not set for no reason. If anyone thinks Marciano would beat Liston, why does Marciano have zero votes?

Charles or Louis. I favour Liston over both but they have the best chances.
Charles at his heavyweight best could conceivably counter and outbox Liston to a decision win. Louis could conceivably beat Liston to the punch with his far superior hand speed and take him out before he himself gets taken out.

He got a 17 second count and initially laid on the floor after "trying" to get up

I was referring to Historical boxing society and the folks who liked his reply. Not trying to attack em for their opinion, I just cannot see it happening realistically.

    Hi George.
Not taking sides, just playing devil's advocate, I am not on board with the oft quoted " light / non puncher " that seems to plague Ali, he was a hard hurtful puncher throughout his career, in particular after the exile, as to Liston being KO,d, it's pretty much taken as read that he quit, by any fair minded boxing fan, just saying...
    stay safe buddy, chatsoon.
    Mike.

Because your actual stated question was - "Who has the best chance to beat Sonny?"

With only one vote possible most are choosing Louis as having "the best chance" to beat one.

someone might think every boxer mentioned beats him but they can still only vote for one name.

Maybe I should have put this topic in the sense of "mount rushmore", so that you vote for four of the 10 offered boxers. If so, then it's my fault.

Don't stress mate. But that was the answer to your question. But yes, four would have worked. The flipside is that a lot of people wouldn't have fancied the chances of that many guys.

Not a problem; i did it. Although now I feel stupid that I changed the voting method in the middle of voting. But I am ready for cooperation.

Liston sure went far with a less than mediocre corner. Sure would have liked to have seen Sonny nurtured by one of those great trainers around in the 50's.

How it pertains to this topic----Sonny does not have the corner for pre-fight preperations to handle a minefield of the top fighters.
Just think of Blackburn/ Seamon working with a Sonny Liston.
