Bernard Hopkins Vs Archie Moore -lght heavy?

Not so much a question of could Hopkins defeat Moore (i don't think so) but does Bernard go the distance?
Or does Moore's legendary punching power get the drop on Bhop?

 

Bernard is pretty cagey, so, he might last the distance. But, it is far from a certainty.

 

I'd back him to go the distance. He's an extremely canny fighter. We can utilizer peak Hopkins because after rehydrating he was around 170 pounds. We can use Hopkins from around 1998-2002 and know that without drying out he's basically a light heavyweight anyway.

 

Would be an interesting chess match for a few rounds. I’d pick Archie for the KO

 

BHOP is my fav ATG middleweight and he was a good lightheavy, but Moore is a bit too much, I like Archie by UD.

 

41 vs 41 I’d pick Moore.

Prime Moore beats the best version of LHW Hopkins decisively.

 

How many times has Bernard Hopkins been knocked out? Once in the last fight. And how many times has he been on pathos? Don't forget B-hop became LHW at 41.5 years old.
My guess is that prime B-hop would beat the old mongoose on points.

Hopkins was a light heavyweight by Moores standards well before moving up in weight. He was rehydrating to around 170 while campaining at 160. His same day weigh in during that time would have been around 175 or damn close.

Well no. Hopkins has no unfair advantage or situation. His rehydration or lack of need for that is simply putting him on Moores level of size. Many will think he is disadvantaged size wise but he simply isn't. The problem is Moore is one of the great H2H fighters in history at his best and maybe a top 2 H2H 175'er. He was also extremely effective against foes weighing well over 175.

 

Since I personally don't consider Hopkins a top ten ATG at any weight class
(Maybe he is at super middleweight) it's fairly easy for me to pick Moore at any
weight limit.

It's as if he allowed his 6ft 1ins frame to fill out after years of keeping his weight reasonably close to the MW limit (by modern standards).

 

Thanks Greg, nice little list. I think he was as high as 172 in one middleweight bout but can't find it. The increase in his weights after finally letting himself go a bit are eye opening. Little wonder he had gotten strung out at 160. Some have copped absolute hidings when they tried to stay in a division too long.
