Is Ray Leonard top 10 p4p in the last 100 years?

I can't come to think of any orher great fighter who chiefly is so associated with his worst moment.

 

He doesn't, first off, and Floyd absolutely dwarfs Leonard on title defenses, hofers beaten, actually winning his fights, etc.

Reducing a resume to best five wins is fanboy stuff.

You seem unfamiliar with what "etc." means. A resume is not five fights. Two fanboys liked your post because the truth hurt their feelings.

 

Fighters are less active these days so they won't generally have the resume depth of past greats.

 

In 2002 Ring did a top 80 from the previous 80 years which is say, 1922-2002. I am always interested in such lists.

Maybe I can redeem myself after putting my foot in my mouth by somehow forgetting a top 10 win of the 1980s or maybe I'll just end up doing it again, Whitaker seems pretty high here to me. He might be getting credit here for the De la Hoya and Chavez fights but even then it feels like the trio without a cool nickname to describe them (Canzoneri, Mclarnin, Ross) all accomplished more and had more depth to their resumes. Whitaker is sort of like the lightweight Bob Foster where it seems like lists that supposedly based only on resume* subconsciously rank certain fighters based on how good they looked on film. To be clear I think that the h2h/eye test or whatever you wanna call it should matter, my problem here is the seeming inconsistency.

*Not saying this is the case for this RING mag list, I don't know what criteria they used, I'm just saying I've seen this behavior before on lists that claim to be resume only but rank boxers like Foster and Whitaker way too highly if that's the only thing being factored in.

 

I think via plain Jane resume there's a very big gap between Whitaker and Bob.

Sure but I wasn't saying that they had the same level of resume. I was saying in the same way Foster gets a h2h boost in light heavyweight lists, Whitaker gets the same boost in lightweight and p4p lists.

 

None of them are close to SRL in ability.

Most of them overrated for their own divisions because of black white TV romance

Yep, the Religious Cult here without any independent thinking overrates Armstrong massively. A pressure merchant, who went life and death with some average boxers in his prime.

Great little fighter for his time no doubt. But GTFO telling me he had top 10 of all time ability when he just got on his mans chest with his midget arms and wailed away. Amazing stamina, amazing grit, top 10 ability of all time? Not on your grandma
